to do it right, have a smith shave the slide down before refinishing. Drake milled the logos off both sides of my kimber:
ETA: this was a stainless gun that was melonited.

Not sure I'd spring for the cost on a Tauri, but ionbond or cerakote would be my choice. I have an ionbonded magwell on my Colt and the finish has held up really well to mag changes.
