Plate size in relation to weight?

Not sure where this belonged but since its more focused on fitness I figured this sub-forum would be better. Mods please move if you feel necessary.

Anyways a buddy and I were talking about weight loss and plate sizes. The question that came up was, if some one bought plates and then later on down the road lost a substantial amount of weight(~60 lbs), would the plate size change or remain the same. In my opinion I don't see a change in plate size since the actual body isn't changing in terms of internal organs thus the same amount of coverage would be needed. The width of shoulders wouldn't change. Is this the correct thought process or am I a dumb *** on this one? Thanks for the input fellas.

I expect if you are really overweight and buy plates to fit, then dump the weight back to "normal", you would want smaller plates. I say this because I have seen folks go thru dramatic weight changes and though there is no skeletal change, the amount of body mass has changed as has their width, even at the shoulder.

Plates...i know not. Soft body armor I know. If you lose a lot of weight your soft body armor would have to change. It would be bulky, loose and in the way.

I think that the same theory would apply. If you lose a lot of weight, your vest (carrier) size would most likely change. So the panels would have to fit accordingly. At least thats the way I think it would work.

NO, im 6'1 and weight 200 lbs.

i can get away with mediums but i really need larges and prefer shooters cut.

you problem isint going to be with the plates.
its going to be with the plate carrier you use it with.

for example, if your currently wearing a LRG PC and lose weight and have to move down to a medium carrier. depending on the brand of carrier, you might not be able to fit the large plates in the medium carrier.

so, make sure you buy a carrier that will accept the plates u buy but can be sized down to fit the "slimmer" you.

check out the ares armor aspis* PC
it will size to fit"bigger" guys and you can use it with or without cummberbund.
(cummberbund also has the bungie cord in the back for sizing.)

This. The measurement across the front of your chest (not shoulders) and height isn't going to change enough to affect plate size. it's the girth that will change.

makes sense, so the main concern would be the cummberbund than and not the actual plate size, correct?
what I'm gathering from all the posts is if the plates too small now its still going to be small when the weight is gone, correct?

Its the carrier Chubbs...not the cumberbun. The carrier needs to be the correct size for you.
