I have an H-1 4MOA on my shotgun and it works great for that, but (probably thanks to my moderate astigmatism) I see a significant amount of fuzz, comet tail, shmutz, whatever-you-call-it around the dot.
Once my AR arrives, I'm inclined to grab a LaRue 751, pop the H-1 on the AR, put the ghost sights back on my shotgun, and start putting some serious rounds through the AR. However, I'm seeing some deals locally on 1-4 scopes, particularly the Trijicon TR24.
Is the H-1 gonna be a problem for 25-100 yds? Is it worth paying the $600 or so (plus finding a mount) to try the TR? I can afford to try it out, but I'd rather sink cash into ammo than kit I don't need.
Or should I just get some damn contacts? Start with irons instead of the Micro?
You can do so much more with a good low power varialbe as opposed to just a red dot. I view the micro red dots as good off set sights to supplement a more powerful optic for close range shooting. But I would not run a rifle with just a red dot in this day and age. Sure they work fine inside 100 yards. But they really limit the potential of the rifle. You can actually shoot further and more accurate with just irons. They have their place as main optics on CQB weapons like SBR's and shotguns but if your running a general purpose carbine or rifle get a good lower power variable. The best solution I have found is to run both. Run the variable as the main optic and the H1 in an Larue 30 degree off set mount as a back up sight and for close quarters work.
