    Gen 3 night vision

Apparently TNVC is closed until next year, but I'd like to get something ordered sooner rather than later.

Looking to get a good quality Gen3 monocular (pvs14-style) that I can use on a helmet mount as well as behind day optics using a mount that clamps onto the day optic ocular bell.

    Anyone have some good suggestions?

I'd say wait on tnvc I can't afford their goodies but know a few friends who can and swear by their service. And really.. it is what 4 days?

Outside of them I've had good luck with smaller items from optics plant.

Why you think I'm posting this?

I would like some suggestions in what the good unit to buy is before they re-open, so I can simply make a phone call with a decent idea of what I want.

My only experience with night vision thus far has been Gen 1 and Gen 2 junk.

Maybe TNVC will get my business, maybe they won't. I still want to talk about the different models, with people that have actually used them, to understand whether or not they will meet my expectations.

Sorry I'm dumb. I thought you wanted alternatives to tnvc.

I've played with gen1, 2 and 3 in limited training setups. Three is beautiful and works great. But the improvement from 2 to 3 wasn't worth the budget increase for me. But I'm not betting my life on it.

I asked the same question (which to get) of some experts in nvgs. People that they wear 5 nights a week it to train people in combat/cqb use of nvgs. Their answer was pick how much you will spend then call tnvc and see the best they can give you for that price. What are your needs and budget? You haven't really defined that to suggest a unit. Are you going to wear it all night and need super light, use it for long range or cqb etc.

If I could spend whatever the nvg+flir setup is amazing looking.

Well I'm a dumbass some days. I chastise people all the time for asking vague dumbass questions about precision rifles. I guess I'll wear my sign with pride.

    Budget - Around $3000
Use - helmet - general navigation, going to and from places in the dark. Driving around... etc.
Use - weapon - shooting rats at 25-50yds, shooting steel 300-500yds, going on vacation and shooting pigs or whatever at 50-300yds. General hunting... etc.

I'd say I'd spend a lot of time shooting rats.

Maybe walking around with my suppressed 45 with trijicon RMR shooting rabbits. etc.

I'm out of my experience at the long range stuff and short range with the same unit.

Enjoy your stupid sign. I wear mine with pride

Just something you might want to think about, I had a set of PVS-5a's and my Trijicon two dot rear sight lit up so bright I thought I was looking into the sun.........
