Now for my question... ...what should I get as a emergency kit for my AR? I am feeling the need to stock up now since the last thing I ever was is to have my rifle become non-useable someday. I thinking about what items wear out over time? I keep my firearms very clean and I ensure never to load on the hot side if the spectrum; but, all firearms have parts that seem to fail more than not. What would be your emergency roadside kit so that you know you will always have a firearm in great working order?
In the short term, because prices have gone ballistic, don't go overboard in buying parts. There are a few parts that will help keep your rifle up to snuff. I'd get these for now because they're available at a decent price.

Now you can rebuild your bolt and take care of a weak/worn out action spring. This should get you through the year until prices/availability get close to being normal.

I keep a spare BCG, spring kit from Armalite, LPK and a buffer spring and buffer as spares.

Midway has Daniel defense bcg"s on back order for this month.

lol just wait a few months for parts. Either way it doesn't even remotely look like parts are going to be banned, so they will show up again at normal prices.

With 30 or so years with the platform I have actually seen very few worn out or broken parts out side military guns that get rode real hard in training. I would say a complete spare bcg is overkill.
The bolt system guts- extractor/ ejector and associated spring and pins, firing pin and retaining pin, cam pin and gas rings plus some spare hammer trigger disconnector with associated springs and pins would be enough. My oldest ar is over 20 years old with a lot of mileage - rebarrled once- but all other parts are original.

I would agree that the carrier most likely won't fail, but I like to have the whole package as a drop in replacement if a bolt or bolt parts fail. That way I am not messing with pins, springs, punches where ever I may be if a fail were to occur. Just my opinion, didn't say it wasn't overkill.

I have seen more than one broken bolt. Yeah the complete BCG may be overkill but a couple months ago they were $100. Not a huge investment IMO.
As far as small parts and peices go there is nothing worse than needing a part right in the middle of a panic buy.
