I run an ambi-safety just to have the ability to manipulate the safety from either side. When shooting (righty or lefty) I switch from SAFE to FIRE with the thumb...while I switch from FIRE to SAFE with the index finger.

That's the method thats taught in the Magpul DVDs, FWIW.

I have actually seeked out the equipment to make my m4 as ambidextrous as possible. The charging handle, safety selector and magazine release can utilized from either side. You never know when you will need it.

Ulysses, at the time I'm posting this, there's was a thread with the phrase "ambi safety" in the title eight threads down from the one you started.

So, not only are the Search features completely unworkable for you....just looking at the screen is a Heraklean task, huh?

    Merged, as-is.

Surf, not to appear to be brown nosing, since I don't know you personally and who you work for, that is impressive shooting

The trigger finger side lever adds utility and versatility, of course this is speaking of all ambidextrous safeties on long guns, not just ours.

You can opt to use it only when you're shooting from your weak side, or all the time (as Surf so well demonstrated) by using it to safe the weapon.

"It CANNOT be run effectively because a properly indexed trigger finger will interfere with the reliability of disengaging the safety", yada, yada, yada....

Well the ambi safety set up has some very practical uses as mentioned here. Like any piece of gear, accessory or equipment you need to make sure that you can run it effectively and reliably and that it has added value to what you do. For myself, while I find use running support side as a lefty, I use it primarily to re-engage my safety without disrupting my shooting grip on the fire controls.

This video shows how I run the ambi safety. I will also add that I like a full length and a full 90* safety but that is just my own personal preference.

Surf is the best instructor that no one (or very few rather) has heard of. I wish he taught civilian or mil (on your off duty) classes, I'd register in a heartbeat.

I saw that Einstein and that wasn't the answer to my question. Thanks to all the non- shittalkers for answering my stupid noob to this forum question! Santoro since you're the forum's policeman and doing such a good job at making others feel dumb, at least spell Herculean in English, I wouldn't want to miss your ego if I did a search!

Thanks for the comment. I have been a big proponent of ambi safeties waaay waaay back when it wasn't even close to being acceptable in certain circles.

Thanks for the nice comment and I enjoy my status and anonymity.

I have had a lot of interest to provide courses but quite honestly I just don't have the time for open enrollment or even private courses. I am still full time on our teams and I do teach full time for about 6-8 months a year and in reality firearms is only a small portion of the courses that we teach, therefore my schedule is very hectic. The good thing is that my students are "supplied" and it is a never ending supply. We turn a ton of people away from the XYZ agencies and branches and the wait is long. The program we have is such a huge success that we cannot keep up with all the requests.

I have had a lot of interest and a few interesting offers across the States and even OCONUS but when I do come to an end with my full time employer, which is not too far off, I am looking at other opportunities that are also not open enrollment and are definitely NOT solely firearm training based and still falls into the lines of what I am doing now and focusing on filling certain contract needs.

I might be convinced to do some open enrollment stuff locally but it will not really be about the money but more about the shooters and the shooting community in general. I have always done stuff for Military guys on my own time as I have made some great friendships and I am looking at doing some free courses up coming if logistics work out. So if your in the area and it happens look me up.
