OP, the first picture you posted is fine. I wouldn't go filing anything. All the RE has to do is capture the pin.

You're annoyed because of a 1/8" gap between stock and castle nut, seriously? It won't make any difference when you insert the QD sling swivel into the Noveske end plate, if that is where you intend to run your sling. The stock will probably not be able to fully close to the first position anyway.

I don't actually have an upper yet, this will be my first ever AR. Unfortunately, it looks like i'll be hard pressed to find anything AR for the next coming weeks and months.

After looking at things closely again, the buffer tube is so close to clearing the nipple on the retainer that I think I will needed just touch it with a few strokes of a needle file and that should work fine.

I took a pic of how it will look with an extra full revolution of the buffer tube. Based on everyones' experience, would you say that the buffer tube would get in the way of the upper?

    Thanks
looks like a perfect fit and should not have any issues with the uppers as lons as the buffer tube does not pertrude.

Whatever you decide to do, don't do what this guy did.

That "custom fitting" install gave quite a few members here a good laugh!

Thanks for the laugh of the day for me. There are a lot of people I would not trust using or working on my guns for that particular reason, even some so-called professional smiths in my area.

Haha, noted. Apart from the fact that it looks terrible and he thought that the tip of the buffer retainer had to be against the notch in his tube, is there any functional issues that would arise from what he did?

Anyway, I know some of you were against this but I decided that my buffer tube was just not covering the retainer enough and I folded to the urge of trying to make things more perfect. I ended up filing a small semi-circular notch to allow me to make that extra full revolution. Not the best pic but.

I was OCD to trying to make it look as "OEM" as possible so I even smoothened the notch with some 3000 grit sandpaper I had laying around and then covered it up with BC Aluminum Black haha. So far i'm pretty happy with it and I don't expect that I would run into any problems. Someone correct me if i'm wrong (AR noob here) but isn't the buffer retainer solely there for the purposes of capturing the buffer/spring for disassembly purposes and it is technically not needed when the rifle is fully assembled?

    Thanks

Does the tube retain the buffer retaining plunger? Does the upper close over the lower? Stop indulging your latent OCD, looks fine to me.

Get out and practice, that's what matters.
