It sounds to me like your rifle is not getting enough gas to function, but probably due to low pressure ammo. Your double star though is probably way over gassed, much like a bushamster or dpms, which is why it will run crap ammo flawlessly.

I don't think that's the issue. If my BCM 14.5" middy w/ an LMT enhanced carrier can run tula 55gr with a Vltor A5H3 6.1oz buffer and a Springco Green spring......his DD can run tula. Trust me.

Your rifle has been shot and is broken in, and I'm sure you lube it properly too

I'm standing by my assertion that this is not a lack-of-gas issue, it is a lack-of-lube issue. If the OP adds lube, his gun should work just fine.

I run Tulammo on a regular basis including courses and have yet to have a failure. The lube may be an issue and slip lube 2000 is definitely a great one, but I am suspect of the cause.

Well as others said, lube the crap out of it, get some good ammo, and if it still giving you issues then contact DD another reason I bought a DDV1 was because I felt assured that if I ever had any issues with it that they would take care of me as I am sure they will to you. No stress just try the options given and proceed to call DD if that does not fix the issue. Keep us updated

DD rifles are designed for 5.56 nato ammo. It is probanly a gas issue with cheap 223 ammo. They design their guns for military ammo not commercial. I just had a similar issue and spentntime with their tech people. Some of their rifles will run commercial ammo but if they do not it is not a warranty issue it is a ammo issue.

By the way the first thing they will ask is what ammo are you using and if it is anything but milspec ammo they will ask you to try it with that first.

Sounds like it's under gassed and short stroking. Have you checked to see if it locks back every time. Put one round in a mag and fire it. If it locks back you most likely are in good shape. If it fails this, try a few rounds of actual 5.56 ammo. You will know at this point if it's an ammo issue.

Now, there have been two incidents reported here on M4C where a DD bolt carrier has had a leaking carrier key. DD fixed them right up. A leaking carrier key will cause short stroking too.

Lube it liberally with a quality lube (like Slip 2000 EWL). The reason cheaper guns work with little lube (or non) is because their gas ports are the size of a $0.50 hooker's twat (Read: HUGE).

DD uses smaller, mil spec gas port sizes and thus requires some quality lube...especially when first fired.

BTW.. if you have a known good bolt carrier out of your other rifle, swap it out and test. That will help start narrowing down the problem.
