+1. When I bought my Colt about 4 years ago (A1 upper) I did a lot of research OTS about building a 9mm AR or buying a Colt. The Colt owners were happy with their purchases and almost all of the guys going the build route generally had one issue or another. Buy a Colt and then get some Metalform mags for it and you will be happy.

a friend of mine owns a JRC 9mm carbine that is fed from Glock mags in 9mm, he loves it, has nothing but good things to say about it.

Another coworker has an RRA 9mm upper on a dedicated lower, I beleive its a Spikes Tactical block in the lower and he only uses it for the 9, no problems, accurate, no worries.

Colt of course because its a Colt. Otherwise if you just want any old 16" 9mm go with an Uzi, also lots of fun, not as fun as a 9mm AR, but still a joy to shoot.

I may be a minority of one here. My 9mm Frankengun is slightly more reliable than my Colt Lightweight Sporter.

Not a lot of difference, mind you, but the Colt some times fails to lock the bolt back on an empty magazine. It may be a slight problem with the mag blocks.

I would think that either could be as reliable as any machine can be with just a little bit of work. Normally, I would think that work would have already been done on a Colt.

I agree with you on the earlier Colts, the later versions have had changes made to improve issues that the earlier guns had. My 6951 has run flawless with anything I've tried running thru it. I was reluctant to spend the $1100 to get the Colt but after adding up the list of parts to build one and reading thru the frustrations some folks were having with their builds I decided to just get my wallet out. If you don't have a bunch of the parts laying around to use and have to buy new I don't think it's worth building. Glad you built gun runs great for you there alot of fun to shoot.

Same here. I purchased my Colt 6450 several years back before it came with the flat top and swapped it out for a RR A4 upper. It is probably my favorite of all my rifles and has never had a failure of any kind. I could probably feed the son of a bitch rocks and it would shoot them.

A buddy and I snagged 6450s for little more than a grand; perhaps the flattops were in the pipeline.
I SBR'd mine, while his is stock. They both have been as reliable as gravity, running factory and reloads, lead, fmj and plated, no drama whatsoever.
And they are a ball to shoot; more power than a .22, but lots cheaper (and easier to reload) than 5.56. They would serve nicely in an unpleasant social situation.
I'm running an SSA in mine; money extraordinarily well spent IMHO.

ETA-I made a leather flap that hangs over the E-port from the carry handle; it bats down the spent casings and makes 'em lots easier to recover.
