I think it is a problem if they don't view this staking as a problem. Now together with what was told to me on the phone about a
new staking machine in the works, it is likely that they think their current staking is less than ideal. How though? From a business standpoint hand staking is definetly not ideal, but is it also the quality of the top staking they are concerned about? Idk, they let these out the door, what does that say? Why not hand stake each one the preferred way? Or just wait till the machine is up
and running (assuming, of coarse, the machine is going to do it right, lol)?

Hopefully they will accept my return. I havn't talked to them on the phone yet.

I have purchased 3 of these BCG's -- 2 for myself, 1 for my father.

None of them have staking that looks like what's been posted in the past 2-3 pages -- which, quite frankly, would be unacceptable to me [personally].

Thankfully, the guys @ RCA/H&M are pretty stand-up (The two I've talked with are: Chris Cerino & Shade McMillen) and I'm sure that they will make it right.

Overall performance with these have been great [as expected]. I run it with a good amount of lube. The fact that the bolt isn't individual or batch HP-tested doesn't bother me that much -- though I completely understand the folks on the boards who would demand such in their weapons.

Took a closer look at mine (with my reading glasses on ) and it appears that each lug on the bolt, with the exception of the ones on either side of the extractor, have a slight angle milled into them on each side where it turns 90 degrees to the top surface. i.e. they aren't perfectly "squared off". I'll assume that this is the "radiusing" or "chamfering" referred to earlier.

Lol..... Wow.... Oh the horror if the dot method....

The point of the stake is to make it take X inch pounds if force to remove the screw to insure they don't fall out....

If this dot does that, then mission accomplished... If not... Then u have a reason to bitch. .

All three of mine are the same. Dot staking, and not done very well. The gas key screws don't look well secured by this method. Standard firing pins as well, not nitrided (that isn't a big deal to me). They're going back. Premium price should result in premium product.

I called and spoke with Chris at RCA. As expected they readily accepted my return and understood that I was disappointed in the staking.
He defended the interim top staking saying it accomplished the specified amount of resistance on the fasteners, 55--60 inch-pounds. One disappointed customer called, he said, and after he told him to test the staking himself he decided to keep the piece because he couldn't break the bolts loose at 80 inch-pounds. Try it yourself, fwiw.

He said the new staking machine, designed by Ned Christiansen is expected to arrive next week. The new machine will do the preferred side staking.

Concerning info in my previous posts about different levels of nitriding for each component. The bolt, like is stated in the survivalist forum review, is in fact nitrided to a less degree than the carrier so as to not disrupt the natural hardness of the Carpenter 158 steel. It is not done so as not to disrupt the standard heat treat, case hardening process of standard MILSPEC bolts. The nitride is not done after the standard case hardening process for any of the components, it serves in place of the standard hardening process. Chris clarified this confusion for me.

At this time nitrided firing pins (nitrided to 42-44rc) are not steadily available and neither are billit gas keys (4140 nitrided to 70rc), some BCG have them some don't. They are working on ironing out the supply kinks and being able to do all assembly and finishing in house.

I will consider this product at a latter time.

The pain of having to field these phone calls would make me turn gay and join Obama's corruption machine.

That's all it would take to make you turn gay?
