HP testing is being questioned as a standard now, thought to reduce bolt life. The well respected Centurion arms is following suit with their bolts. Batch MPI? Yes. Id be interested in knowing batch sizes compared to batch sizes of other companies myself.

They are now using billet gas keys. Is there documentation of billet keys failing sooner than forged? We are all familiar with the technicality of billet is weaker than forged as it relates to receivers, just curious if billet keys are known to fail sooner than forged, and at what point this failure occurred.

The "nice exterior treatment" isn't applied to make it easier to clean. You know that's just an added benefit. Reduced friction, increased lubricity, and longevity of life (tbd) would be the goal here (this is nothing new).

Drawing your honest opinion without actually using one is your priority. Attempting to convince others of its inferiority with broad generalizations and narrow comparisons has me wondering why you hang around itt to begin with.
Honestly, I'm not going to spend $250 on a critical part that is an unknown. I'm aware of the argument against HP and I'm willing to concede that it may be unnecessary. However, forged gas keys are a known good and shouldn't be difficult to source. Billet gas keys however, are entirely unproven. Add to that the batch MPI testing and it's not a far stretch to conclude that the underlying bolt carrier group is not a known good. In my opinion, that puts the underlying bolt carrier group somewhere below the milspec carriers and somewhere in the commercial spectrum.

I've been very interested in these specifically because of the nitride coating. However, I'm not willing to pay a premium price for a product that cuts some corners. I'm sorry to be blunt about it, but that's how I see it. What surprises me is the number of people here that are willing to ignore these issues AND pay a premium for it. I've "hung around" because the product specs keep changing. I had hoped they would change for the better and more closely align with the mil spec competition. I have no interest in convincing others of anything, I simply called it how I see it. With that said, I'll shut up now and move on.

I agree mtdawg. You don't have to drive a Yugo to know that a Lexus is a better car.

I to must agree with mtdawg. I was really interested in buying an RCA but I'll stick to my usual BCM BCGs.

For the record, I'm not saying that they are junk. I'm just not willing to pay a premium for that combination of specs. Just a personal preference, nothing more.

Got mine for $250 from Brownells in late April. Had some visually un-pretty machining on one section. Talked to Shade (by calling H&M) and he said "Send it back." Did so and I had a new model one (radiused lugs, nitrided firing pin) that arrived about 3 or 4 days after I sent it back. Shade had called and told me the new one was "pristine".......and it certainly looked the part. As I've stated previously, it and a few new USGI bolts I have are dipped in EWL and in a gallon ziplock for future projects or spares. So, that precludes me from commenting on actual use, but the business/transaction end of things went well.

Not picking on you. The whole thread no the whole NET. is filled with this, Mil Spec or USGI Mil Spec because as most of you know there is a difference between USGI MIL Spec and North Bum f@#$ MIL SPEC. When talking about this I wish one or the other were stated. USGI or non USGI MIL SPEC.

USGI mil-spec is like nailing jello to the wall. To ascertain that you need to know WHO exactly is producing bolts for the gubment. Good luck with that! But meeting mil-spec is another matter entirely. It is done by a number of companies like Colt (who does make 'em for the military), BCM, DD, CMT, etc. Rubber City Armory uses the proper material but the rest of the process, like HP/MPI, is open for discussion.

I had purchased three RCA bcg's. I sent an email reply to my online invoice email (Alex) and never heard back. This was on June 5. I wanted to give them some time to respond, but received no reply from them. Tried calling a couple times but no one picked up, and yes, it was during their listed business hours.

Just got back from the post office. Bcg's are on their way back to RCA for a refund.

Too many other known-good choices out there. Oh well.
