ADM Recon or Recon-x for my 1-4x

I am getting a vortex pst 1-4 and will be mounting it in an ARM mount. I like to mount all my optics with the front of the mount to the end of the upper receiver rail. I feel this gives me the best point of reference for reattaching the mount. Also I shoot with my stock on the first position or fully collapsed, NTCH or just infront. With my head position and how forward I mount an optic, do you think the extra length of the Recon-x is needed? I am leaning toward the Recon x because it seems more versatile

Bingo....the Recon X is ultimately a more versatile mount.

9/10 times the Recon provides the proper solution, however getting the X model eliminates that small chance of your mount not working properly.

1-4x types generally always go best with both a extended version, and a "H" model (Tall/Hi mount).

It does not seem they make an XH. I run my reddot at 1/3 cowitness so I am used to a higher head position. Maybe I should look into a Recon h. If I could only chose one, H or X, the added hight maybe more benifital because this is a run and gun rifle. Does anyone think the Recon H is too high?

depends on the optic. I have tried a SWFA 1-4 and a MTAC in the Recon mount and it works just fine. something with a longer eye relief will need more...

Not the same mount, but I do have pst on a scout x mount and I am happy I went with the extended model. I actually accidently ordered the scout model. I was going for the recon and Never even caught it. Probably because I was so excited to get it set up that I was not paying close enough attention. That being said, the scout model has been holding very solid as any other mount. I am really curious why they make both.

I have a PST 1-4X mounted on a Recon mount.
It is mounted at the front of the upper receiver.
    Works fine for me.

It will depend upon the optic to a certain degree. I went with the recon X and am very pleased. I also shoot NTCH.

Please excuse the stupid question, but why couldn't you install the mount half on the receiver and half on the hand rail. Does it have to be mounted only on the upper receiver?

It can stress the optic mount and lose it's zero and zero repeatability.
Most trainers will recommend against it.
