Build Me a .22LR Precision Bolt Rifle

...For under $500. Can it be done?

I want something that is reliable, simple, fun, and accurate. I shoot my Marlin Model 60 with a BSA Sweet .22 scope and have a blast plinking with it.

However, I want something more precision and accurate, so I'm hoping to get some ideas from you guys. The longest distance I have available to me is 300 yards, so keep that in mind. I will not be competing in official competitions, just having fun with my buddies and seeing who can make the best shot. Factory, local, readily available ammo will be used. Most likely CCI.

Fill out the following form with you your suggestion of $500 .22LR precision bolt rifle:

    Rifle -
    Scope -
    Mounts -
    Accessories -

If you feel up for it, please link us to your suggestions. I'm sure others could benefit from this too.

With that budget, you really only have one choice of rifle. Savage Mark II.

Most accurate budget rimfire out there.

Good to hear! Just picked one up today. Does having the bolt on the left side improve accuracy more so right?

Well you could give 17hmr a try if you want moa accuracy. Bit more pricey, but STOOPID accurate.

Another vote for the Savage MKII. Crazy accurate, and can be had for around $500. They're a good buy if you can find one.

I've had the Savage as well as CZ and I'd pitch in the extra hundred for the CZ. Granted, if you want glass/bipod/Etc. all for under $500, it's going to be tight unless you put a chino-walmart-Coke-bottle scope on there.

Rimfire can be a LOT of fun (add a can and double your pleasure) but if you apply the same principles to rimfire that many do to center fire wherein the glass costs twice what the rifle does, you'll often benefit equivalently, especially if you intend to shoot out past 100y.

Save an extra couple of months and get a CZ 452 or 455, put a Harris SBR-M on there, and as much scope as you can afford (with an emphasis on scopes with a lot of elevation adjustment as .22 drops a good bit).

Then hope the drought in .22 ammo lets up at some point and buy cases of it.

That retarded backward safety on the CZ is infuriating.
