The CDMIL and FFP/RFP setup actually looks like one of the first usable answers to me. Lose the push buttons, and that 2.5k price is actually enviable for an optic weight a pound and a quarter.

Whether using it socially or recreationally. If I see a whitetail on a sunlit ridge and I have to make a quick shot I want to dump the brightness up to a usable level quickly, and I would imagine that someone who has to use this in a CQB role of some sort would quickly want to be able to dim the dot portion to account for inside lighting levels so he's not fighting the starburst to get a viable sight picture.

Keep in mind this is just my opinion based on hunting with a red dot where quick shots in changing lighting conditions are the norm. If they offered this is a standard rheostat I think this would be damn close to the optic that a bunch of companies wished they could bring to market.
100% agree. USO needs to go back to an illumination dial.

I was under the impression that its debut was at last year's SHOT. In fact USO spent most of 2012 telling people, "Just 2 more weeks for preorders" on another forum.

Thus, I'm not holding my breath. This 1-8X technology seems to be just beyond the grasp of most manufacturers - especially when it involves dual FFP/SFP capability.

I saw it at Shot 2012. They said it'll be out in 2012. My personal thought it was going to be vaporware. I really hope this guy does hit the market at an affordable price point. I can't remember what they said it'll cost back in Shot 2012, but I remember it was one of those..."DAMMMNNNN" moments.

I'm wondering if there would be some economy of scale for building a more standardized version with a MIL EREK knob on top and external MIL windage, with the RFP setup to make those additions relatively affordable.

That CDMil reticle looks extremely good. I really wouldn't be surprised if the version I'm interested in (twist rheostat, red illumination, EREK/MIL, CDMil reticle) gets right up to 3k on price all told, unless that particular pile of features becomes popular.

And just think; an US Optics employee is a member of Bacon Survival, too. Hit me up offline if you want an intro.
