    it's personal preference. however, on this scope, the reticle is a different style. because MRAD is a coarser measurement than MOA, the subtensions appear finer with smaller hashmarks near the ends of the stadia and turret clicks are different too - 1/10MIL on the MRAD vs. 1/4MOA on the MOA.

    I got the MRAD because my other scopes are MRAD and I find it easy to use. MRAD is an angular measurement where the radius (distance to target) equals 1000 x the subtension. this means the distance spanned on a target is always 1/1000 of the distance in whatever distance units you use, yards or meters... (ie; 1MRAD = 1 yard @ 1000yards, or 1 meter @ 1000 meters, etc..)

    using yards (because that's what I'm used to) 1 MRAD = 1/10 yard or 3.6 inches @ 100 yards and 1/10 MRAD = .36"

    MOA gives an approximate value of 1" (1.047) @ 100 yards and 1/4MOA clicks = app. 1/4 inch @ 100 yards. most people find this easy to use.

    looking at the MOA reticle I might want some fractional hashes near the ends like the MRAD but I think both reticles are well designed for their use and I would choose what you are most comfortable with...

    I ordered the MRAD version a week ago from Sport Optics and received it yesterday.

    For reference, I have previously owned and sold or returned the Viper PST 2.5-10x44 (SFP), 4-16x50 (SFP) and 4-16x50 (FFP), in each case because I decided that the glass quality was not to my liking. I thought I was done with the PST line but the reviews on this were positive enough to have me try one.

    Initial impressions are VERY positive - along with the normal goodness of the Viper PST line (turrets, reticle, and illumination) I am very pleased to see that the glass is very good all the way up to 10x. I see no real defects at 10x and no chromatic aberrations (which were significant in the 4-16x at 16x), and the image is quite sharp at any distance when focused (the 2.5-10x44 SFP was rather soft/dull at ALL distances, even though it was theoretically focused at one of them).

    I also like the metal zoom ring rather than the rubber band style they used on prior models. (Other models are switching over to the metal ring during 2013.)

    At 10x the exit pupil is smallish (3.2mm, as you would expect) so eye position is a little tight, but it's not too bad compared to other small exit pupil scopes I have, and it doesn't seem to have the extremely critical fore-aft eye position requirement that the 4-16x's had. For me it works fine in bright light, and in dimmer conditions I'll just use it at 7-8x and get a bigger exit pupil.

    I have the MRAD reticle and I find it very good. I wish the thick outer bars were about twice as thick (as they are in the MOA version, where they are 5 MOA vs. 1.75 MOA in the MRAD version (0.5 mil = 1.75 MOA)). They are good enough though, especially at anything above 2.5x. The inner reticle is just a bit thick at 10x, but is so thin at 2.5x that they really can't go any thinner and have it be useable. The FFP is a definite compromise here, making this more useful between 5-10x where you can use the reticle at any power, but getting really faint at lowest magnification.

    The scope is impressively compact, but feels very solid.

    The only issue I see, and it's minor, is that the claimed field of view is 47' at 100 yards at 2.5x. When I've looked at objects roughly 100 yards away I don't seem to be seeing anywhere near 47', and comparing this scope at 2.5x to my Bushnell Elite 3-12x44 at 3x, the FOV is essentially identical. I was hoping for huge FOV and instead would rate it average.

    Initial impression, overall, is that this scope is a winner, and I might even get another. I think it's a great size/weight for AR15 type use. On a larger, heavier bolt gun I would be inclined to get something different with more exit pupil and/or magnification.

    That's pretty much what I was looking at this scope for. I'm looking at this for a build with an 18" Krieger barrel.
