I have a magpul RVG, magpul Afg-2, and a knights handstop.

I always seem to go back to the RVG as the best option for me.

I frequently find myself going back and forth from VFG to AFG. Really wish there was a perfect blend. Tried chopping up a hybrid like I saw somebody on here do, needless to say my skills are...lacking. Wish Magpul would put one out.

OP don't worry about all this AFG, VFG stuff since you are new to the platform. Start with a bare rail/handguard, get some instruction, practice and you will know when to progress to the next step.

Same here, but if using a carbine length handguard (yes, some people still use those), I need all the real estate I can get so for those I go with a FSB mount (I like the Elzetta - ugly as a baboon's rear, but functionally perfect).

It took me many years of buying and selling shotgun parts as a youngster to learn this. I'd spent thousands on different lights, mounts, optics, grips, stocks, forends, etc... and ended up with a weapon that looked like I should be pluggin' T1000s with and it weighed as much as a kindergartener. Now my favorite shotgun doesn't even have a light on it. It's a 28" Wingmaster with a 10 round mag and fully loaded it's lighter than any other long gun I own, save my .22s... I've since learned my lesson and leave just about anything on my weapon off that doesn't drastically change things for the better (or minimally, if it doesn't add weight, ala a tritium front sight post).

Best overall answer so far... I didn't need a VFG or AFG on my pellet rifle when I was a kid and I could nail running cockroaches at 20-30 yards easily... However, indexing points ARE good and I would recommend that if you must have one, pick as low-profile of one as possible. I may even consider running the new Magpul handstop setup on a rifle for awhile. If I don't like it, I'll only be out a few bucks.

Yep... Four ounces may not seem like much, but you'll be hating that "tiny" bit of extra weight if forced to carry your rifle for extended periods of time.

Yes... spend your money on ammo and practice more instead - a much wiser investment.

My favorite are the Gear Sector hand stop, or the Magpul RVG. You can cut down the magpul to whatever length you want.

Buy the cheapest of both and test. Then buy the expensive one you want.

Fore grip, hand stop or AFG

Just switched from the AFG2 to the XTM hand Stop kit. So far I'm really liking the change.
