I have been using the new Magpul handstop for a couple of weeks now and I like the design so far.

Again its up to your own personal preference.

On one rifle I have a daniel defense forward grip, on another, magpul AFG (I like variety). Again, it is all up to what you like the most.

Exactly. None of that crap belongs on a rifleman's weapon.

I have a magpul VFG on my rifle, I have it on there because it was free. But I use it only as a hand stop. I say if you belong to a range, get friendly with people there and if they have a piece of gear you are interested in just ask to try it out.

Try them and pick what you like, if you end up with one on the carbine at all.
For ARs, I can't stand anything on the bottom of the handguard. I'm a classically trained rifelman and VFGs seem awkward and pointless. I MAY consider trying an AFG on my MOE since I already own one and use it on my 870 express. I like it on my shotgun as it provides better slide control and makes forceful racks easier and quicker. I just don't see the point of adding weight to an AR when I doubt the benefits are that great compared to a smooth bottomed handguard. My two cents...

I'm going to get a stubby or medium vertical foregrip for my scar.

    Because:

Handguard is kinda high and harder for my hobbit hands to hold

Gives a more secure hold when i pull on the fore-grip and push my thumb against the click cap of my 11 o'clock light. Versus pulling on the front edge of the handguard rail area.

Placed as far forward as possible, it helps me index my support hand the hell away from the reciprocating charging handle.

Might be a worthy tradeoff if it doesn weigh a lot.

Thanks all... I'm going with the popular vote here... I have someone that I've taken a couple HG classes with let me borrow a AFG and VFG.. As is only my opinion, I think a hand stop will suit me best. I like a direct physical reference point.. Consistency pays dividends! But I'm open to try all.. I have my first carbine class coming up in the spring... Stoked about it.
Again, thanks guys for the input... Knowledge sharing is killer on this forum!

I had a Troy VFG. Took the quad rail off and put an older CAR handguard on it and really like it.

As others have said, you'll have to try different setups and see what works best for you.

    Good luck, NYH1.

I prefer my hand guard naked and unmolested, well except for a light.

Well I've tried all but a hand stop. My middy has a m4risii with a tango down qd battle grip. I like it plus you can store extra air or parts. Lol

In the end you'll have to decide by trying different setups and see/feel what is best.
