    Extended A2 Flash hider

I was wondering if anyone has done a test to see if the extended A2 flash hider is more effecient than the standard A2. Also do you consider the A2 effecient in low light conditions, such as home defense. Don't have any opertunity to shoot at night where I live.

I ran the A2X for a while. Didn't find that it noticeably different at all.

And Yes... the A2 is fine for Home Defense. I run it on 11.5 and 10.5 guns.

With nasty ammo like XM193 and a 10.5 you get a muzzle flash. But I don't use that ammo for primary defense. Even if I did though... my weapon light outpaces the muzzle flash.

I did not use the extended A2, but I would think it is the same as the standard A2, so I could say I was pleasantly surprised on its flash hiding ability. I really like the A2, I am not sure at my skill level if I would benefit from a comp, yet. Though if I do get one, it would be the BCM Mod 0.

Also at night, a 200 lumen light it is much brighter than the muzzle flash. It was, however, in the desert not inside a house. I would be more worried about the noise inside, than flash, since the A2 works well.

I use XM193 as my primary defense round. Can't find any of the good stuff around here for a reasonable price, LGS want $30 for a 20 round box of TAP and refuse to buy over the internet. I have a light for night use as well, should hide the flash like you said. I was just thinking that the extended length might make it perform somewhat like the phantom flash hider some.

XM193 is my stash ammo round... it's just SO hot that it's pushing the cyclic action some guns to the limit.

And no... the extra lenghth doesn't translate into a big gain in supression.

Do you think XM193 is a better stash ammo than say, XM855? Which one would you run in your SBR's? I've actually noticed that M855 has less flash than M193 from the same barrel. Not sure why that is.

For real world home D I like the 55 grain a little better. If I were reaching out 300 yards or more, I'd like the 855 more.

But to cover everything in one round, I like the 77 gr SMK. Brutal fragging at contact distances and outstanding long range for a .22 cal.

M855 was designed for use against body-armored Ivans at fairly long range, hence the steel insert. At short range against un-armored hadjis (or home-invading bubbas,) they tend to go through without fragmenting. This is why the US military has been adopting new ammo, like the Mk318 for the USMC and the M855A1 for the Army. I was lucky enought to buy a bunch of TAP for a decent price (and definitely think a couple of boxes, even at retail price, is worth it,) but my backup stash is all XM193.

I was shooting XM193 in the dark with an extended A2 a couple of weeks ago, didn't notice any difference than a regular A2, but I wasn't really looking for it either.

It flashes. It's not eye piercing bright that leaves you seeing a black spot or anything. As previously mentioned, your light is brighter, especially if you're in a room with white walls.

Why does the barrel or ammo let out a really big flash every few rounds?
