Today, more than ever, the issue has nothing to do with safety, reduction in crime, etc., and has everything to do with control.

even back then it was still not about crime reduction. It was and will always be about control

    Agreed.
I should have worded that better.
I'll edit my post to reflect this.

I just received My black and gold NRA hat the other day and was wearing it out while shopping.

I swear i had several people come up to me and told me"Nice hat" and started talking about the current attack on our rights .

Only one older man started in on the" nobody needs a AK or AR" I explained to him some of what i read in this thread .

I told him that his semi auto hunting rifle and shotgun functions just the same as the evil black rifle ,so in fact his weapons could be next .I explain that even though you might not want one don't go against other gun owners who do own these rifles.

to divide gun owners on these issues will hurt us all in the long run ,and that he needed to support any law abiding citizen decision to own any firearm they want .

I even had to explain the NFA to him and that Full auto was legal if you can afford it and the amount of paperwork involved and how the 94 AWB did nothing to stop crime and I could see the wheels turning in his head .and he Told me "son you are right ,I never looked at it like that before "

So I hope he will start talking to the other Fudds if you can change one persons mind then they will talk to others .Strength in Numbers I told him

So again I thank you steyr for this information I myself have problems saying the right things sometimes and your Post helped relay the message to others

The only thing that wouldn't be eliminated by the sporter clause is the 1934 NFA.

I've gotten a few PM requests to repost the original topic or use parts of it in letters to Congressmen.

I wrote it with the express purpose of getting this information out to those who need to see it most. So you have my permission to repost the original topic elsewhere.

I'm not concerned with credit, however if you feel it is useful post the original link back to this forum.

And that is why they never will.

Personally I'd love it. It would be great to have an honest to goodness militia to network with in times of crisis and train with regularly. Done properly it would be similar to a volunteer group of fire fighters or police reserves rather than a gaggle of ****tards all wearing a different camo pattern while talking about FEMA camps.

I read this the day you posted it. Fantastic! I've already had four "fence sitter, non-gun types" read it, as well as a few gun lovers too. It has stimulated some great discussions.
