    Also...I would add this.

KNOWING that these shootings produce scares and shortages like this. If you buy a rifle or pistol...be sure to buy several mags for these things as soon as you find it financially possible.

I would also say that you begin to stock ammo in calibers you use. Do it one box at a time if you have to.

That way...when the next scare/shortage happens...you are NOT one of those racing around and grabbing up everything or one of the ones paying the high prices.

Those that have owned 9mm or 223 firearms and only kept a few boxes in your closets for years...I don't have much sympathy for you. You SAW Obama get elected and KNEW he and his merry men were going to try something like this. You had 4 years and a previous ammo drought as proof. And you STILL did not stock up.

When this blows over....stock the hell up...ok? Don't be one of the morons adding to the problems we have right now.

This probably WILL blow over and this scenario WILL rear its ugly head again. LEARN from it...ok?

Bumped because I can't believe we are STILL dealing with this bullshit.

Rational and well stated, however, this is an emotional issue for the other side.

It's always emotionally driven, if it were logic based we wouldn't even be having these discussions. Thankfully though since this was originally posted the things we were most concerned about seem to be "off the table" and expanded background checks are now the reasonable concession they want everyone to make.

What I wish every pro 2nd amendment member of Congress would have asked every parent of Sandy Hook victims is how they believe ECBs would have prevented the Sandy Hook tragedy as Adam Lanzas mother was an eligible purchaser and DID do a full background check.

I, and most other people, are very interested in ideas that might have "prevented" something like Sandy Hook. Problem is despite their tagline of "we need to prevent the next tragedy" EBCs would have done nothing in the Sandy Hook case and they are unlikely to have any significant impact on the next tragedy.

All that will be accomplished is a more comprehensive picture of firearms transactions with the possibility for data mining by the government in and above what ATF already engages in. And only people who are eligible to purchase firearms will be the focus of this new legislation and that makes me pretty uncomfortable.

About the only thing that might have prevented something like Sandy Hook is a database of mentally impaired individuals and enforcement of laws that prevent them from accessing weapons legally owned by others in the household. But that is an entirely different can of worms that nobody wants to touch and has a lot of room for abuse and denial of rights to anyone who might suffer from simple depression or PTSD issues but aren't in fact dangerous.

Adam Lanza's mother KNEW her son was dangerous and becoming more violent. This is why she had plans to move and get him some kind of treatment. Adam Lanzo was the "assault weapon" in this instance, not the firearms belonging to his mother which he used.

Like most parents, Adam Lanzas mother failed to see the violent murderer living under her own roof and saw only "her baby" and she let her emotions cloud her judgement and he was able to access weapons which cost the lives of several innocent people and his mother.

If we want to prevent Sandy Hooks, Columbines and similar tragedies then we need to be talking about a "violently dangerous / mentally impaired person control" bill going through the Congress. And even if we had such a law it won't necessarily prevent "the next tragedy" because sometimes you simply don't get any warnings or indicators.

    Outstanding Steyr!

Don't know how I missed this when you first posted it.
I would like to pass this along as well. Including the link to the OP.

Thanks for allowing it. I could never put the words together that conveys such logical reasoning.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”Thomas Jefferson, quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria in “On Crimes and Punishment”, 1764

Just this AM, I was trying to find a way to formulate a logical response to all the excessive emotions. Go figure, you already did a great job and you got it done 9 months ago.
