Why There Will Always Be Gun Ban Efforts...And What To Do About It...

Letter to editor in WSJ today. He doesn’t realize Firearms are already regulated.

One way to address the issues is to let average people know how restricted firearms actually are. More than alcohol, vaginas, and automobiles.

From my experience, the anti-gun folks don't want to hear any argument for guns no matter the logic--including trying to inform them. That being said this is not all of them but I would venture to guess a majority. That doesn't mean we should not try to inform/teach them.

Again, great points made in the OP, Steyr

The anti gunners believe their position is right with the conviction of a religious zealot.

The OP wasn't for the anti gun crowd, which has already decided regardless of any facts, it was for everyone else, especially those who haven't given it a lot of thought except during times of crisis.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Great OP. For antis, I started asking them to define "reasonable", "enough legislation", etc... the point out that current laws aren't enforced, and pressure needs to be there before passing more laws that hurt elderly, women, and the disabled most.

I think a lot of people don't realize they are advocating a total ban until you lead them to it and realize they are over reacting... sometimes.

    Consider this....

The Democrats/Left will always want to disarm you. They have round the clock protection in the upper echelons and live in some mighty whitey neighborhoods at their middle class.

The Republicans/Right are NOT the good ol' boys. They use guns as a carrot on a stick to get votes. They too have round the clock protection.

And....then you get into the good ol' boys who would give up ARs and the like at the drop of a hat for "compromise" out of unspoken racism.

I had an interesting conversation c. 2006 with some good ol' boys who said MGs and Suppressors should remain "illegal" because "the n___ers will get them".

Needless to say we were not friends.

The gun world breeds a lot of hypocrisy. They won't allow national CCW but criminals do it anyways. They don't care. It is henpecking of a class too poor to fight in court but still 'rich' enough to tax.

I have known more than a few single blacks who live in not so good areas. Disarm them and they have no chance. Police response is not so fast.

Terror and criminality will come and go but once freedom is lost, it is hard to reclaim peacefully.

Hillary Clinton went on about being under "sniper fire" which was debunked soundly but it makes one ask....

"When was the last time our elected officials were afraid of not going home?"

This is not a call for negative lashing out but a real question.

Right now, there is a serviceman standing post who may not see his family again. A policeman who may not go home at the end of his shift. A fireman who may yet burn alive in a structure and crushed under the weight.

I know some of our membership have felt that fear. It is very, very real. It can be very helpless but if you've prepared; you go into autopilot.

That fear of dying. Disarming every last person in the world is impossible and would change nothing. The strong shall rule the weak.

I'm not asking for guarantees of safety.
I am asking for a fighting chance.

And not for myself but for others.
The American Dream is a family, a home, a life of love.

But there are those who would kill you for your last penny.

You know......It is tempting to be part of the club. To live a fat, dumb, happy American life where I get to laugh at the same jokes, be part of the same culture, and to fit in. To not consider the implications of criminality.

But I cannot. I have seen too much. I am not alone.

In my faded youth, I enjoyed shooting. Now.....I dont know how I feel.

But I know I am married, at a minimum to my G21 and my Colt. Am I afraid? Not anymore. I have nothing to take and killing me wont hurt my feelings. I doubt there is anything out there. I want there to be so bad. But I doubt it

But.....my concerns are with the poor family who do not have guys in suits with MP7s amd shorty SR-16s. People who want a life. People who have love.

I am sorry cruelty exists in this world, I have tried to stop it to the extent I was able. But I am one person and small.

I have no faith in government. A lot of Republicans from Red states are rushing to legislate.

Guns are not my life. Will anyone come for me? doubtful. I doubt anyone anywhere would mug me.

But what about the family? ADT does nothing. Yeah...the burglar/home invader will just run away, I'm so sure.

What made us free for so long was people scared of Americans with guns.

But....I leave you on a joke.

What do you call a voted out congressman?

    Millionaire.

And I've come to the realization that Trump is a Rorschach Test. He's neither a womanizing Nazi nor the next messiah of freedom.

He's an opportunist. And if you think he will defend your rights, I got some bad news. He isn't.

So, I say hold your ground, offer no concession, and if you havent been calling or writing your elected officials then you'd best start.

But even then.....it's a club. You're not in it.

Well that was sobering, but I can't argue with a word of it. We're just along for the ride it seems.

Third we stop with the notion that we must "meet in the middle" concerning our rights and instead focus on taking back what has been lost.
The left aren’t anti-gun, the just want the only people who have guns to be working for them.

They want a return to feudalism. Look at CA: Elected politicians are exempt from pretty much all the gun laws. They want an armed nobility that can do what they will with the peasantry.
