Count me has a guy who if he ran Colt would focus on doing a few things very, very well. I too remember the days when SIG did that and one was safe getting one and running it out of the box. On the other hand I don't want to see them fail to anticipate the market. I would love to see a new Colt pistol design to put in the holsters of American cops, civilians and the military.

After some time searching I found the patent for the 6940P.

It shows the press fit pin attaching the key to the carrier as well as otb features. Its a pretty good looking patent.

They don't seem stagnant at all to me. They are gearing towards the civilian market alot more now than in years past. They along with every other AR manufacturer can't make their products fast enough. That is a great problem to have in this economy.

Aside from the CM901 they have not seemed to release anything that raises the bar. With SHOT here and seeing all the pics from my friend I see different manuf. making revisions to their rifles that offer more advancements and making their system better and better.

Yet Colt is still just Colt. The 6920 is still a 6920. Instead of focusing on making a 6920A1 or making true upgrades to their systems they have decided to create one new rifle(CM901) and make numerous hydrodipped, Magpulled, Retro, and other variations of the same system. Their whole SHOT booth was the same old same old with a few additions that are just variants from the past and some that are painted.

The only really different systems is the (CM901, and SCW which is vaporware at this point), So what has happened to Colt that caused them to become stagnant and not continue to truly upgrade their systems. Why have they not come out with a new bolt design a better carrier design? The only things I see coming out of Colt lately are variants of what we already have, and while they may sell well to civilians they seem to be getting left behind when compared to other manuf's progress of upgrades.

They almost seem to be happy sitting on their ass surviving on their government paychecks instead of truly pushing the system and what can be done to it. Don't get me wrong Colt is THE "gold standard", but why not push that standard even higher than it is?
Frankly, I don't agree that Colt is the "gold standard".

I have a 6920. I have a Stag Model 8. I have an LWRC M6A2. LWRC is a far better rifle, hands down. My Stag is every bit the rifle that my 6920 is.

Don't get hung up on "milspec". That is just a gubmint requirement that existed at a point in time in the past. LWRC, LMT, BCM, DD, etc. are leaving Colt in the dust.

Okay, maybe I got caught up in the moment! I REALLY love my LWRC!

I do believe that my 6920 is the best DI gun for the money, though!

Pretty sure you left out the underpants.

While I like my BCM and Noveske carbines, if I was to pick up a complete rifle, Colt would be on my short list. To me, a 6920 or 6720 are like an old Tacoma or 4Runner: not the most bells and whistles, but dependable and purpose built.

I agree with you, I think they are "stagnant." The have historically been slow to adapt to the market, kind of like we are seeing now. But hey they make basically one gun, and they make it pretty damn well.
