If it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't be in love.
My Colt 6920 is a phenominal rifle with a very real, comparitive difference to all the others. Make no mistake...Colt is the real deal and have been doing it for a very long time. Adhering to the TDP for the amount of time that Colt has is experience that you simply can't pay for. That's the way I look at it.
Well I never stated that was my business practice. I run a business and do have a passion for it, and do not like building the same homes over and over again, hence I build custom homes. I can tell you that I have subcontractors that do not like pushing the envelope, and competitors that do the same things over and over. They are still successful and have a place in the market. Some of the largest home builders are track builders and have the same models for years. I think that your statement that colt will be out of business in 4 years is ridiculous myself.
ETA: I would love for them to deliver some innovative designs to market. I just don't think we are witnessing the end of Colt if they do not do that in the next few years.

I will do my best to not clutter things up..
A few days ago it was asked about what FAT stood for. After doing some research, and a little reading, (amazing what you can learn that way...), I pose this thought. Why would they change? I realize this thought goes in line with a lot of the comments, but why? The Military trusts the product they place out there. In addition to that, various police departments also trust what they put out... So keep it going until one of the big contracts changes or adds a need.
I am thinking the industry even thought they may put out new product, has not yet been through as much as Colt. I know there will and there probably is better products out there. However, like Colt, they need that "test of time".
Stagnant as it seems, it works.
Just my .02. And it may not be worth that much.![]()

If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Why are all of these other companies releasing new products when they can't even keep up with the demand for their current products? There is no need to be "fresh" if your current product doesn't stay on the shelves for 5min. That goes for any company producing any product.
Colt is keeping up with the market. In fact, Colt is the market. So much so, Remington wants to wrest the market away from them using the same rifle built to the same specifications.
Remington has been innovating their long standing Model 700, one of the finest bolt action rifles ever made. Yet folks are talking about how Remington has ruined the 700 and it's best to find an older model before all the changes were made. The innovations Remington made are considered downgrades.
KAC has made innovations on the AR, is very well made, costs twice as much as the Colt, but what does it do better? Not much in a practical sense. Every time an innovative AR is introduced, it generates a storm of controversy due to "proprietary" parts, un-proven parts and "solutions looking for a problem". Witness how the Sionics rifle and the BCM Jack rifle were received on this site. More than a few posters were queuing up to slather on the criticism by the bucketful.
Really, what more can be done to the AR? I think just about every possible variant has been built. Yet, at the end of the day, after the gunsmoke has been cleared from the air and the last empty case has stopped it's spinning, the most popular and useful AR carbine configuration is the simplest and the least innovative

Please tell our viewers here how many Stag's have been to combat? The same for the LWRC. Answer= NONE.
The Colt 6920 is the standard whether you agree or not and there are many in the industry who will say the same.
Many dealers wouldn't carry Colt either because they were ignorant (or ill-informed) and because the profit margin is higher on trashy guns like Bushmaster, DPMS, Stag, etc....
I will say that one of Colts biggest downfalls is not grasping the market trends. No need to change the operating system, but simple things like putting a good rail on, or offering different stocks, as they are doing now with the Magpul line of guns.
