This is very true. The only adjustable stock to give me a cheekweld that's not on the RE is the UBR

In my opinion the GI stock isn't too bag if you remove the Bottom sling loop.

Most of the stocks available are complete nonsense. I like the SOPMOD a little, but it's heavy and you know you're running it.

The new B5 Bravo is the end of Stock retardation as far as I'm concerned. It's a basic stock with good cheek weld that you don't even notice on the gun. That's the mark of a good stock in my opinion... you don't think about it doing it's stocky little job.

I switched my standard stock to an EMod to help balance one of my carbines out. It was nose heavy and switching the stock helped it quite a bit; the better cheek weld and storage are bonuses. I put a STR on a LW BCM mid length for the better cheek weld, and storage. It's a toss up over which I like more but both are better for me than the standard M4 stock. But that's my opinion and you know what they say about those...

for my Recce or SPR type rifles I use an Emod for the length and cheekweld. storage is nice but not necessary. I use it for 2032 batteries for the scope, a broken shell extractor, and allen keys for any rails and mounts that use them.

for a plain old 5.56 carbine with RDS, the more I use other stocks the more I like plain old GI stocks... wearing anything other than a t-shirt, I don't need the butt pad and I don't like the added weight of aftermarket stocks.

I got a CTR when they were all the rage. in reality it does nothing the GI stock doesn't except add weight and cost a lot more. I see the MOE stock as a viable alternative...

Durability! That's worth it's weight in gold. Comfort doesn't mean crap if it can't hold up. More importantly personal fit, and natural point ability.

I'm not he only one? This is one reason I'm thinking about switching to a rifle stock.

It's 100% a personal choice I love my str because it balances the rifle well someone else may like the cheeck weld or the friction lock like the eight of it

Do the G.I. type M4 stocks have durability issues?

Well Said. I like my Magpul STR... you might not. I'd recommend going to a gun show and picking up different AR-15's with different stocks on them. Alot of AR's come with LMT SOPMOD, VLTOR EMOD, Magpul (stocks) etc already on them.

Grab them and see what fits best. This is one of those times a "one size fits all" doesn't work.

I have a Mako/Fab Defense GL-Mag on the way (whenever they decide to ship it). I really like the idea behind it.

Otherwise, if it doesn't work out (for whatever reason), I am looking at either the ACE ARFX or ACE ARFX-E(ntry) stocks.
