    Fish Oil

I searched but could not find the answer I was looking for. I have started taking Natural Made fish oil for general health and to help with weight training. Any way I looked at the back of the bottle today, yeah I know after I bought it. And it said it contained soy. I have read before that soy can increase estrogen in your body. So my question is does this amount of soy matter or not. Or should I finish the bottle and than search for a different brand.

I would worry about the poor quality of Nature Made fish oil more than the trace of soy you may get with it.

Omega 3 FAs are fragile, and easily converted into fragmented and cyclized FAs without proper handling. The effects of these fragmented FAs are yet unknown, but as were the effects of trans fats until recently. I also question Nature Made's quality control and the quality if their ingredients. The heavy metal content is likely up there.

I have been taking it daily for the past 12 years. I hope I am not wasting my time.

How many grams are you taking? I have studied that it is really not effective until you get to the 3-12 grams of EPA and DHA combined. Also, try to find something that is microfiltered. It will remove the heavy metals. I go with Puritans Pride Triple strength.

It doesn't matter how much fish oil you take if the EPA and DHA are low. I take 5 a day. I stock up on them when it is like buy 2 get 3 free. Then store them in the freezer until you are ready to start taking them. It keeps them from going rancid. I also don't get as much "fish" burps with these. They definitely help my joints with lifting and jiu jitsu. One thing you want to watch those is bleeding if you are an easy bleeder and clot slowly you may want to stick closer to 3 gr than above.

Four grams of the Omega 3s EPA and DHA (combined) are recommended daily for inflammation reduction. Even a small amount will be beneficial in the long run, but I recommend 2 grams a day for the average joe.

The problem is you have to read the label to see how much is actually in each pill. With low quality product like (nature made) they will advertise 1200 mg of omega 3 in two capsules, but there may only be 300 mg of EPA and DHA combined. Higher quality products may cost twice as much, but they are also generally twice as potent.

I have been taking 1200 milligrams once per day for years. Sometimes I get the taste of a flying asian carp with poor hygiene in my mouth, so I hope it was not in vain.

Yes, but is that 1200 mg of EPA and DHA combined or of fish oil? Because if it is just fish oil, you are most likely taking way too little.

    It wasn't.

But be advised, 1200 mgs isn't 1200 mgs. It's likely a third of that. It's the EPA and DHA we are after so look at the label to see how much of those two are in each serving to see how much you are getting. It is surprisingly low in most brands of fish oil.

Thanks for all the info and links the nature made is EPA 360 mg and dha 240 per two pills. So to be effective I guess I need to ingest about 16 pills just to get the bare minimum. Or my math is just that bad. Well you get what you pay for I guess. But I am guessing due to the replies that the soy is a none point.

Yeah, the soy is pretty much mute. I guess if you were drinking soy milk all day, eating soybeans every chance you got, eating tons of tofu for your meals... maybe.

You would only need to take 6 to be at 4 grams. It is combine EPA and DHA.
