Federal HST becoming “officially” commercially available.

Anyone have any more news on this? I would love to buy reloading components like I can with Gold Dots.

The HST is a great bullet. The HST rounds have also traditionally been the price leader in gov purchasing, creating the rare intersection of being one of the best and one of the cheapest. I wonder where it will price pointed on the commercial side.

The ammo will be available but no official word on components.

I just hope they don't make it 20 round boxes for commercial use.

20s outsell 50s by a very wide margin. Most buyers are single-box shoppers that gravitate toward the ~$25.00 price point. If the premium offering (HST, GDSP, Hornady CD/PD) can be had for that price, they'll buy it. Otherwise, they will tend to buy a lesser product (Hi-Shok, Win Personal Defense, etc). Most shoppers will be satisfied with one or two mags worth of ammo, and rarely shoot it.

20rd packaging also tolerates a higher price point per round, increasing profitability.

True, I never buy SD ammo at brick and mortar stores. I either reload my training rounds, or buy my SD ammo in bulk via the internet. I can buy SD pistol rounds for half the price as brick and mortar stores (before the hysteria that is).
