Here what I'm thinking off the top of my head...
    1) Chop it just behind the gas port, re-profile it and re-drill the gas port to turn it into a SBR or Pistol barrel.
    2) Chop it to a 18" SPR profile and just use an adjustable gas block to regulate that "compensator" of a gas port.
    3) Use it as a fence post.
    4) Send it to MarkM and make it his problem.

I have ended up the owner of a 20" SS bull barrel (rifle length gas system) with a gas port of .143". The bore is in good shape but I feel the gas port being so large will make the rifle expierience cycling problems.

So should I scrap it? Or is there a way to fix it without having to spend alot of money that could go toward a different barrel that is good. Thanks for the advise.
    .143"???

    Smile .143"

Yes the measurment is darned close. A #28 drill fits this hole without any inteference. I will read the post indicated in above noted posts.

As for the word "Scrap", I don't have a use for a barrel under 16" as a pistol build is not one of my interests. I dont think the hassle of a tax stamp and such is worthy of my time. Not to mention Being on Uncle Sugar's lists of owners is like a sharp stick in the eye!

I would use it for trade fodder if not fixable. I have yet to mount it in any upper. I was intending to use this barrel for an A3 style varmint rifle along the lines of an R15 copy sans cammo.

This barrel came into my hands as a trade for some other parts. Suposedly it's a Blackthorn barrel. It is not marked anywhere on it.
I ran a patched jag through it and came up with 1:9 twist. The chamber is also unknown. I will use it as a .223 not 5.56 just to be safe.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm new here but not to AR's or gun forums.

It would make a good jack handle for a old bumper jack!

Go for it. In this market, don't trash anything.

If you have a great barrel you want to use, you could save the barrel.
    I would try this.

I actually wasn't familiar with the Blackthorne company so I did a search and apparently they are the new name for Vulcan/Hesse? In any case, I agree with the other members here and say that putting it on the TOS exchange (trust me it will sell much quicker there) might be your best bet. In this market even that barrel has value (regrettably).
