My Kahles 1-6x arrived today from Sport Optics. This one is much brighter and more clear than the one I tried in my local store. Probably a newer battery. It's more than daylight bright. It's like looking at a red-hot piece of metal that just came out of the furnace. It's pretty awesome. I'll probably never need to use it at full brightness. The illumination knob isn't going to get bumped by anything. It has a detent for the off position and turning it requires real intent. Nothing to worry about there.
Playing around with it, the only thing I think it could use is a locking diopter. That would be nice because I can see that getting moved around by accident more so than the illumination knob. Gotta be careful not to twist when taking the lens cover off. But really, it's a super high-quality scope.

Thanks for pointing that out. This truly relegates this optic to gungames. Can't have a SHTF optic that goes dark in the middle of a situation where one is shooting into a lowlight area from a sunlit or lighted area. One of the reasons eotechs are rapidly fading from serious users guns.
Bottom line, Kahles 1-6x has superior glass, light weight, daylight visible illumination, and good reticle options. A few more tweeks would better prepare it for serious use.
Here is a review of the Kahles K16i 1-6x24 : http://www.westernshooter.com/2014/0...m1-review.html
Guys is the "horse shoe" circle part of the SM1 reticle visible and usable in daylight WITHOUT the illumination being turned on?

From my limited experience, no more nor less than any other scope I compared it to. It's the same type of glass-etched reticle process used on most other optics as far as I can tell. But the line thickness of the circle is thin enough to be unobtrusive, yet thick enough to be visible against various backgrounds. Hope that helps.
Does anyone know if Kahles is planning to offer a mil dot based reticle and exposed turrets? The combination of a simple reticle and capped turrets is not suitable for my needs but I really want the glass and day time bright dot. Hopefully something to see at SHOT?
Kahles' email address is on their website. I don't think anybody here knows what's going on behind closed doors there any better than they do themselves. But a mil dot reticle could be nice. However in a 1-6x what's the point of exposed target turrets? Are you really going to be fiddling with them and adjusting windage/elevation on the fly at like 4x?
