My thoughts exactly... I've handled a few examples of both and the fit and finish on the Sigs were much nicer. Colt may have a proven track record... I'll give them that, but I haven't experienced any problems with mine.

Where did you get this information from? The last I heard, Sig uses the same steel all around as the Colt. They also MP test their bolts and barrels, they're not just marked. The Colt does ship with a full auto bolt carrier and an H buffer, but in reality, the Sig ends up having less recoil shooting many loads, thus the reason why JP uses reduced weight carriers and buffer systems. No rifle any civilian can buy without a tax stamp is milspec.

Ok, I'll cut it down to simply better since this isn't a Bushmaster we are talking about. However given Sig's history for quality control (though surprisingly I haven't heard anything bad about these rifles), use of a semi-auto carriers, and other very minor issues no one can argue that Sig is tier two yet (DD/BCM).

Firstly, your are using semantics when it comes to mil-spec. I simply meant that Colt performs all of the same tests, QC/QA, assembly procedures, and generally uses all the same parts for their civilian line as they do for their military line. Also, if you are an SOT then they and FN are the only ones who can provide you with a mil-spec carbine so ha, aren't semantics fun.

I will back out of the barrel steel argument as I have not heard confirmation on that so they may be using MIL-B-11595E steel. However, I have not heard it listed as such and I was under the impression they were using the same steel as on their 556 line? In any case, I yield that argument for the time being.

Also, I was unaware that Sig MP tested their bolts and barrels as there were no markings that last time I inspected one so I ASSumed that they did not. As the user above posted I was apparently wrong on that. As such, I have revised my opinion of the rifle somewhat.

I suppose that I may have let my personal biases against Sig after their disaster of a rifle the Sig 556 soured me somewhat on the company's rifle division and maybe I let that color my post. As such, yield the floor.

A single deviation that is required by law is irrelevant to the greater point, and I think you know that.

Those are Grant's tiers if I recall.

    Tier one: Colt/FN

    Tier two: BCM/DD/Noveske (I think)

Tier three: Pretty much everyone else.

Also, I would argue that there is also a tier 2.5 where PSA, Spikes, Sig, and S&W sit.

I've only been on this site for a year or two, and Let me tell you it never ceases to amaze me how vehement you people can get over a brand. Specifically when your arguing over quality brands.

If you are going to war and have a choice or weapon, I'll concede that a Colt or FN may be a wiser choice based on past history and track record, but lets face it. Most of you/us are not taking out personal rifle to war.

So buy what you can afford when you can, and train and enjoy. While your at it learn what your weapon likes, and needs to perform for you. Before you know it you'll have a trusty rifle that you know how to use and take care of, and then it will take care of you.

So whatever you guys and ladies have out there: Enjoy, and dont listen to the "Brand Snobs" unless they're offering good advice or knowledge

I usually stay out of these "Tier" threads, but this is getting ridiculous.

Can you tell me where my LMT M4 with Knights goodies (yes, installed by them and has some unobtainable KAC stuff), including an NT4, falls into the "tier system?"
