    Rds Mounting questions

Hello all, I'm new to ARs (got mine a little after Christmas) and I decided to pick up an RDS for range shooting. I chose a vortex strikefire which came with the mount for my specific setup (flat top). My questions are as follows: where exactly should I mount the sight in regards to distance from my eyes/face, and how exactly do I mount it? To expand on that last question, I have everything on my AR, but it seems to come lose after some shooting. I think I need to use some loctite, but ive never used that before. Im assuming that I just put some into the screw hole and tighten it down and then let it sit....? Any tips for a noob mounting his first RDS would be amazing!

    Thanks

The location of your RDS would be personal preference. A good mount shouldn't require Loctite. If you need it, a small drop on the threads of the bolt should suffice.

I like the mount to sit as far forward as possible while still being on the upper receiver... not on the handguard rail.

I remember reading somewhere that your RDS should be positioned as far back as is possible. Something about sight picture and opening up said picture. That being said I too am relatively new to the AR and RDS systems. I am sure it is all personal preference when it comes down to it.

I remember something g to the effect of mounting your RDS out to the point of your vision crosses. Like where the eyes meet in the middle. Something along those lines anyway. Also remember to shoot with your eyes open when shooting with a RDS.

I tend to mount the red dots farther back where I can reach them easily. When actually shooting I don't see the surrounding tube, just the dot and the target. In any case I don't go farther forward of the CG if possible.

I have my Aimpoint Comp M3 mounted forward to allow room for the magnifier to go behind it.

But try it out is several locations to see what works for you. I shoot through my RDS with the both eyes open technique and the dot appears to be super-imposed over the target.

Does it matter if I am also trying to make sure that I can cowitness through my iron sights? Anywhere I put it on the rail will still allow me to cowitness, correct?
