Does it matter if I am also trying to make sure that I can cowitness through my iron sights? Anywhere I put it on the rail will still allow me to cowitness, correct?

I believe this is correct. I like the 1/3 co-witness method. Where as the dot appears to be in the lower 1/3 of the sight picture. I had a link to this method at one point in time. I'll see if I can find it. Found one here: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?p=311403
