Rebarrel the S&W 627 or other N frame?

I was hoping the wheelgun experts here could help me out with a project.

Basically, I want an 8 shot .357 with an unfluted cylinder and a standard heavy barrel like that found on the Model 66. I am not too picky on how I get there.

    So, questions:

Would will the 627 cylinder fit in a standard N frame, maybe a Model 27?

Can I rebarrel the 627 with a standard contour heavy barrel?

How hard would a project like this be? Should I send it out to a gunsmith? Recommendations?

    Thanks.

Alternately if you go the custom route, the nice folks at Cylinder and Slide can accommodate your wishes.

You cannot add an 8 shot cylinder to a regular n frame. The barrel is actually slightly higher in the frame on an 8 shot than a regular n frame. If you don't mind getting a 6 shot you can get a 627-0. It is super heavy.

Your other option would be to buy a regular 627 and have a custom barrel made and installed.
