    16" Midlength Handguard/Rail Option help

Thanks JBecker! Your pics and info helped sort me out. What's your favorite? Centurion/KAC/DD

Tough call, they all have their pro's and cons. I really love my lightweight rifle with the KAC rail, however I don't like the proprietary barrel nut that requires a special tool. The DD rail is also very nice, however it requires a lot more install work like the KAC rail, but without the special tool. The Centurion rail, to me is the best of the best in that it provides a rock solid rail, with a very easy install. I cut my delta ring and handguard cup off this upper, and bolted on the rail over the standard barrel nut. Install took less than half an hour and required no special tools, or a trip to the armorer to have him work on my rifle.

IMO, Centurion offers an outstanding product that is easily serviceable by the majority of AR customers out there. I have plans on building another rifle identical to the one I posted as a backup whenever this craze dies down.

Just to maybe put a different idea in your head. This is my other rifle before I added the T1 and Surefire. This is a BCM mid length upper that originally came with a standard FSP like my other rifle. However I had my armorer chop down the FSP and install the rail over it. Cost was very minimal, and it works like a charm. So if you already have a middy with FSP, this might be an idea worth pursuing as it is very simple and very reliable.

If you were to go this way a Centurion 12" rail would be a great choice. I almost went that route, but chose the KAC due to the weight savings. (though it added a greater cost overall)

Notice the hand stop location is in the same spot, and I have long arms.

I know it's common, but I'm kinda hesitant to chop the FSP. I'd hate to regret it. Maybe I just need to go with one of the rails you suggested, and build another rifle without the FSP to begin with.

Yeah. I'll do that. That's a good reason to get another, right???

Thanks again. I don't really have any friends who are into this stuff so it's great to be able to bounce ideas around here.

Always good to find an excuse to build another rifle.

I cut my FSB and went the way of the Centurion 12" about 2 weeks ago. This rail is the way to go in my opinion. very solid. Installed on my 6920.

After extensive gunsmithing, my rifle is capable of sub-moa one shot groups all day long. Outstanding accuracy. me

Just heard that Troy has a mid length Delta Battlerail in the works... Think I might hold out a little while to check it out.

the Centurion midlength cutout is 11" long. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't find a good position for your support hand and it would allow you to keep your FSB. I love mine...

Hey guys I'm in a similar boat as the OP and I was hoping you could give me some advice.

I'd really like to get the Centurion Arms cutout in midlength but it seems to be sold out everywhere I look.

If I get the C4 12" instead as recommended by Jbecker, how simple is cutting off the fsb? Can I just cut the top off the fsb with a dremel and slide it over, or is it more complicated than that.
