    Mossberg 590 9-shot

I have a 20" 590. My question is, is it just the thick-walled barrel and metal trigger housing that separates the 590's and 590-A1's?

Also, is it worth upgrading the trigger housing or the barrel for just shoot it until it breaks?

    Thoughts?

I put a metal trigger assembly in my 500 a while back. They were like $60 from Brownells 2 years ago. I felt the upgrade was worth the money. Managed to sell the original trigger set for about $35 to recoup some of my costs.

I am sure it has happened, somewhere, sometime, but I have yet to hear of the plastic trigger guard breaking on a 590 or an 870.

What is your usage and what would you gain from replacing the barrel and trigger assembly and barrel with 590A1 parts except weight?

Other than cosmetics, and what you already mentioned, they are both the same. I do not believe the 590SPC has the bayonet lug though.

My 590 does have the bayonet lug. I honestly don't see a point of it, except to piss off liberals and their 'assault weapon' agenda.

I'm going to just shoot it till it breaks, but I'll probably keep an eye out for the trigger assembly at a more than fair price, just in case.

Mossberg shottys are fine guns, as well as the Rem 870s.

If I were to get a different barrel, mossberg makes an A1 barrel with a modified choke, vs the cyl bore I already have, so in a sense 2 different barrel profiles.

I've got a stock, off the shelf, 590 that I've been shooting since 1990. Around 20,000 rounds through it, and several classes too. Nothing has broken yet.

Keep what you have unless you plan on doing some serious abuse to the shotgun, than go with the metal trigger guard.

Is your 590 safety metal? If not than maybe replace that.

I have a 20" 590A1 and bought it over the 590 for the added features (except bayonet lug, I don't plan on doing a fixed charges anytime soon) but if I had a 590 I wouldn't add them later as they are going to cost even more than the original difference between the 590 and 590A1.

I would suggest saving your money and spending it on a white light for your shotgun, a side saddle (I like the velocro shell holders that allow you to tear off an empty one and quickly put on a new one) and maybe the KNOXX recoil stock.
