Good points except for the stock - think about safety manipulation, with a tactical stock you have to completetely let go of the pistol grip of the Knoxx or any other assault type stock.

Brownells has the Ghost Rings available for back order; personally on a home defense shotgun I wouldn't spend the money. Ghost rings are excellent sights for slugs beyond 25 yards, with buckshot the conventional bead is quicker and offer more than acceptable accuracy with slugs inside 50 yards unless you are doing something fundamentally wrong.

If you don't think the reflected light from a weapon mounted light will provide enough illumination for conventional bead usage, you can get a tritium front bead.

For mossbergs I would not get a tactical type stock, as I posted above, most folks have to completely remove their hand from the pistol grip to manipulate the safety.

As far as side saddles for the Mossbergs (and any as far as that goes) these are pretty darn good:

With the TacStars and other side saddles you are replacing the machine screw which mounts the ejector to the receiver with a longer one to serve as the front attachment point for the side saddle. The holes in the soft aluminum side saddle mounting plate usually get wallowed out and the side saddle isn't secure. Use of the velcro mounted esstac gets rid of that issue.

    Good luck.

I couldn't agree with you more. Shotguns are best pointed not aimed. GH

On a 590A1 9 shot model with the Bayonet lug, where or what do you use for a forward sling attachment?

I handled some 590s yesterday at a LGS, but they have no forward sling attachment. Just the bayonet lug.

Anyone have suggestions? I appreciate the input.

This is mine. Every 590 I've ever seen has the below arrangement, mounted to the mag support bracket/bayonet lug as shown:

All the 590A1s and 590 SP I saw yesterday looked like this.

So it looks like you could drill and tap the back of the bayonet lug and screw in a sling attachment point?

Unless something has changed recently, the bayonet lug is pre-threaded and an attachment is included in the box, to which a QD sling swivel can be attached.

OK, thanks for that info. I didn't remember a pre-drilled hole in the back of the lug. The gentleman that helped me out was not very knowledgable about the model, and he just pulled it off the rack. He probably didn't know about the attachment point in the box.

    I have both a 590 Special Purpose and a 590A1.

On the 590SP I upgraded the plastic safety with an aftermarket aluminum one and the plastic trigger assembly with the OEM steel one. I have upgraded both shotgun's' with Wolff Extra Power magazine springs and GG&G followers.
