New proposed anti-gun legislation in MN

I hate to bring politics into the regional forums but feel this topic should be brought up. As many of you already may know, several extremely anti-gun bills have been introduced and are being heard by the Public Safety Committee this week, February 5-7, at the State Capitol building. NY-style AWB and two bills limiting magazine capacity are among those proposed.

If you are able, please attend the committee hearings on one (or more) days to show your opposition to these measures.

    Schedule from the Committee website:

I'm not from MN, but I read through and saw one piece of proposed legislation that I may be able to get behind in some form. A voluntary list where you can ban yourself from firearms ownership for a pre determined amount of time.

If the proposed bills pass it will have an effect on other states. That's why King Obama is coming to Minneapolis tomorrow. He wants to sell this shit state by state because it will be easier than getting his gun agenda through the house.

For all of you living in other areas of the country, keep pressure on your state legislature so they don't bend the knee to King Obama.

As of the last election, Minnesota has a Democrat governor, Democrat House, Democrat Senate. It's a midwestern state, easier for other states to relate to than the notoriously more liberal eastern states. Since it's likely that he will fail on the national scene, I'm sure that Obama has Minnesota in his crosshairs as his best shot at maintaining or re-establishing the momentum of his flagging gun control campaign.

    Call WRITE Show up!

To my fellow MNs: please take this opportunity to engage your state legislators (heck, how about our guys in DC as well?). This legislation could define our hobbies, our professions, and the general view our anti-gun neighbors may have of us.
Those of us in Democrat-held districts need to be especially active. Remember, they work for us.

The time is now! Hearings start today.

We are NOT Chicago. Or NY. Or DC. Or CA, or any place with murder rates up to 16 times as high as ours. Make it known!

    Voted!

Barring any screw ups with a group I'm working on a project with at school, I hope to make it down to the capitol building on Thursday for the hearings at 10am.

In an interesting display of policitical realism and transparency, (Democrat) Governor Dayton told the Star-Tribune on Monday that:

any changes to the state's gun laws will need support from rural Minnesota lawmakers to earn his endorsement and signature.
In case Minnesotans were wondering if their visible support and hearing attendance was making an impact on legislators, Dayton included.
