Home made grips for my 1911.

Had some free time today to make a pair of new grips for my 1911. Also, stippled the surface around the logo.

    Thumbs up

What did you use for grip material? Were the roughed out or started from scratch? Did you have a pattern or simply use another grip as a pattern?

I used some extra polymer slabs from my parts bin. I used some Hogue wood grips for an outline and to get general specs on the screw holes.. I reshaped the grips thin.

Very nice! I like the stippled look. Here are some that I've made out of black delrin:

    Thanks!

About and hour to get the shape that I wanted, then another 3 hours to do the logo and stipple .

Thanks! If you or anyone else would like to try finishing a set, I still have probably 3 sets of either white or black that you can have. One pair per person though, and you pay for the postage. The basic outline is there, along with the screw hole and bushing countersink. All that needs to be done is the contour (easily done roughly with a file and finished with sandpaper) and countersink the top side for the grip screw head.

If anyone's interested, just let me know, I already have a few pair that I'll keep. Also, if there's any machinists on the forum, I can provide the drawings and .igs files for the grips too ( as well as the entire pistol if you like).
