    Cool EOTech auto-off function override

I have just gotten my first ever eotech (never even handled one before this) 2 weeks ago, I purchased a new 511.A65. I know battery life is very short for a red dot style optic however that doesn't bother me, I use rechargeable batteries so I don't mind going threw them every 24 days or so (advertised 600 hours).
Is there any way to disable the 4/8 hour auto-off function? I would prefer to change batteries an average of once a month and have the sight always ready, than to have to spend the next few months learning to turn it on every time I pick it up, even after its muscle memory it still takes another 1/2 second and adds an element of confusion in a possible life-or-death situation.

Have not heard of a way to do that, you may want to check into an Aimpoint tho. Good luck.

Anyone know if older eotech's of the same model, or any other models might be missing this"feature"?

I dont think there is a way to disable the auto shut off short of the factory. I had a dept. Eotech turning itself off after 10 minutes. It was a clean exchange after they took possesion of it. They may have totally rebuilt it but it looked brand new except for the box which was the original I sent in.

I can't see eotech disabling that for you. You will be better of going down the aimpoint path. If keeping it on is your ideal setup.

I had a Rev. F & got way less than the advertised 600 hrs. IIRC, I got around 300-400 hrs. After having problems with it shutting down in cold temperatures, Eotech suggested that I switch to Lithium batteries which solved that problem. I believe Eotech gives 1100 hrs for Lithium, but I never tested it.

I had the Eotech go down a couple more times unrelated to cold weather. So, I switched to Aimpoint. My main rifle's Aimpoint has been on continuously for 8 yrs now. I let the original battery go for 3 yrs, but now I change every year. It is probably overkill, but it is nice to know that if I forget, I have several years to remember to change the battery.

Advertised battery life in the Eotechs is very optimistic. It is further reduced by the use of rechargeable batteries, which will have less consistency with successive charges. Removing the auto shut off opens the door makes your overall unit reliability a wild guess.

Leave it alone, run quality lithium disposables.

If you want a serviceable constant-on RDS, you'll need to get an Aimpoint.
