I must have not been very clear in my above posts. I'm not asking for anyone to troubleshoot the thing, because it's not even assembled. I spent most of my career as a small arms repairman, so if I do have any issues I'll run them down. I was just wondering if anyone had used the PRI tube, and if so, what their experience with it was. I just figured a reduction in gas pressure may have some merits, especially once I put a suppressor on it.

It's not going to help you. You have a barrel that is almost certainly overgassed. Then you are going to add a suppressor which is going to add even more back pressure.

Your best option is to sell that DPMS barrel and get a quality one. In addition you may even have some issues with the chamber as they are known to be tight. All the DPMS carbines and SBR's I have seen did not run well at all.

Yeah, I'm no DPMS fan. Their stuff is typically mediocre, at best. But, the places I usually get components (BCM, Spikes, PSA) were all sold out and I didn't want to pay the ridiculous prices for a good barrel that was in private hands over on Gunbroker. So, I'll run this one and see how it goes. Hopefully once the buying madness subsides I can get the 10.5" PSA 1/7" CHF barrel that I wanted for this project all along. In the interim, I'll have my upper complete for when my stamp arrives.

Are you aware that BCM has 11.5" in stock?

I think Murphy's law covers that. As soon as you're far enough along in a project that you can't back out, the correct parts shows up.

Unfortunately, they didn't when I ordered this one. If I could afford to buy it now, I would.

I bought one several years ago and used it on a 14.5" gun. When using hotter milspec ammunition it ran fine. In fact it felt softer to me under recoil than previously.

As soon as I ran of out that ammo during that time frame and picked up some generic stuff from wal mart the gun immediately turned into a single shot rifle.

So, at least if you're not running hotter ammunition, I'd say it's a don't purchase item to anyone considering one.
