    Austin, TX Gun Stores

Hi all-- I'll be visiting Austin for the first time over the weekend and wondering if I could get recommendations on good gun shops in the area? I'll probably have only Sunday to go looking around so want to focus my visits. Thank you for your help!

It's been awhile since I was exiled to Texas. But there was a shop in Austin that at the time had a very drool-worthy selection of firearms and I believe it was McBride's

They had some gorgeous lever actions, Lightning repros, SXS shotguns, and high end bolt actions along with surplus rifles & handguns, just to name a few. Overall, a good selection and a well rounded inventory

Was in Austin on December 21 and went to McBride's
(at the time they were well stocked)

Picked up a Ruger Cattle Drive 10/22 for my daughter and two Ruger BX-25 X2 Magazines. Prices were real good.

I would recommend taking a stop there, they were 3x larger then any gun store in my city and my family was all wide eyed like in a candy store.

austin tx. prepair for the 6st.hangover.lol

iam from austin and theres gt dist. and mcbrides both are good, i think gt dist. right now is selling somethings to leo only, but the stores open to the public. the academys are starting to stock up finally, also theres a cabbellas down south, and its really nice. last time i was there it was stocked well and of course very big. i live out in the fire zone in bastrop, very close to austin, just lost everything i owned in the big fire, so its givin me a chance to get back into the gun craze
and do some shopping, now the big run is on .22 cal ammo. never thought i would see the day you couldnt get that...lol.

I was in Austin A few months ago and went to Sportsmanship Finest. At the time they had a very large selection of transferable Full auto.

I have also been to McBrides several times. It is a nice store.

    Have fun

    My thoughts:

McBrides - good selection, but I have never been able to buy anything there as their prices seem too high and their salespeople too busy or too stupid, or both. I have walked out numerous times over the last 20 years as I couldn't get anybody to even acknowledge me in any way, let alone wait on me.

GT Distributors -- this is my go to store when I need something now and can't wait for an Internet purchase to be delivered. Yes, they are open to the public on most things, but they are a LE distributor and some firearms are restricted by contract. You can find out which by going to their web site and looking for their weapons policy. There, I made it easy for you: http://www.gtdist.com/WeaponsPolicy.aspx

I haven't been to Sporsman's Finest but I need to go so I can see for myself. I hear they have a good selection but I don't know about their prices.

I could be wrong but I don't think any of the above are open on Sundays. It would be best check their web sites first.

There are lots of little stores around but most, maybe even all, aren't worth going into, IMO.

GDS if you are still there on Monday.
Winning may not be everything, but the endorsements are better.
