I have plenty of rail estate on the top of my SCAR17, and since it's a rather "tall" gun, I thought a bipod that mounts to the top, "suspending" the gun below it might be worth looking into. Do these exist?

The Vltor mounts to side rails. http://www.vltor.com/modpod.htm Not sure about mounting to the top rail.
The original Tangodown could probably be mounted on the upper rail. I have one, may give it a shot tomorrow.
Actually, take a look for the Tangodown on the MilitaryMorons site, I think they have a pic of that configuration, as I recall.

The cheapest bipod I would ever recommend to someone is a Harris. Which start around $100 and go up.
They what a lot of serious target shooters call... "starter pods".
A good bipod should be solid and it's attachment to your weapon should be equally solid.
Precision shooting is about seeking perfection.
Perfect aint cheap!

$200, that's it? Try a steel Parker-Hale bipod if you think $200 is bad! P-H bipods tend to run about $300 or so...when you can find them!

$300, that's it? Try a Sako TRG-22/42 series bipod, if you think $300 is bad!

Also, take a look at the side mounted bipods from this company at over $575!
