Help a noob choose his AR Pistol
Ok, please bear with me. Let's get three things out of the way: 1) you know more than me, I get it, 2) I am aware this setup is not ideal, and yes, I acknowledge it's essentially a pricey toy, and 3) I want to use this toy, if I must, for home defense. So with that being said, please save the inevitable disagreement and help me find what's best for the following:
I want an AR pistol. I'm open to going as short as 7.5 inches but will likely prefer 10.5. No, I don't want a 14.5 or a 16 rifle. Yes, I know many will disagree. Not going the SBR route; I just want a pistol...
Should I focus on a 7.62 for better home defense application? I know the shorter barrel will reduce the efficacy of the 5.56 round, but I'm not convinced I need to worry about that considering this would not be the first thing I grab when the dung hits the fan (got plenty of shotguns and pistols for that). That being said, for my home defense use, please note the following: I don't have kids, or anyone else in the house to worry about shooting through the walls. My wife and I sleep in the same bedroom and the only reason she wouldn't be in the same room at night is because she divorced me for realizing what I'm about to spend on an AR pistol. Kidding. Or not. We'll see.
So should I focus on a 7.62, and if so, what length and what brand should I look at?
For the 5.56, I am considering the Noveske Diplomat, the LWRC PSD, the POF (I love the NP3 finish because it absolutely rocks on my H&K P7M8) and the generic Rock River Arms pistols (not their PDS). Are there any other 5.56 brands I should be checking out?
I'll likely throw an EOtech and a flashlight on this, and I want a quad rail with pop up iron sights.
Any insights into which round (5.56 vs 7.62) I should focus on as well as brand would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: Help a noob choose his AR Pistol
Drop your consideration of a 7.62 AR pistol.
Typos brought to you via Tapatalk and autocorrect.

What I suggest is that you stop typing and listen to people who have some experience that you have admittedly stated you don't have and listen to reason.
A 7.62 AR pistol is the absolute worst thing you can build and it's going to be nothing more than a novelty. If you don't like the answers your getting, then don't ask the question.

Uhhh, buddy, I was asking the question to get some "reason." Thank you for your opinion, please consider the 7.62 consideration dropped. Now, is there a particular 5.56 pistol brand and length you'd recommend?
Wow. Sorry for asking/typing/deferring to people who I thought would willingly share their experience.

I don't recommend an AR pistol... at all. I want my expensive rifle ammunition to perform like... Well... Expensive rifle ammunition.

So let me get this post back on track...assuming you were making the mistake of buying an AR pistol, we have now deduced it should be a 5.56...now is there one brand you would prefer?
Thank you for helping me make this mistake the best way possible.

Let's start at the beginning, as it is a good place to start.
1) Why do you want an AR pistol?
2) What are you expecting to do with said pistol?

1) I want an AR pistol for adding to my collection, and for plinking on a friend's outdoor home range, that will also double as my backup-to-my-backup-to-my-backup-to-my-backup home defense gun. No, I don't need another shotgun or another pistol.
2) I'll shoot it on the range and I also like the idea of it being my other gun with a tactical light (my shotgun is my go to HD gun and has one).
Other considerations:
a) I don't need a full-fledged m4 rifle because I get to shoot every variation/brand/configuration known to man at my friend's place (his collection is amazing). His AR pistols are all Rock Rivers and I wanted to see if there is a better brand to use to build a pistol rig.
b) I am much more confident in using an AR pistol to clear my narrow house than I am with a rifle. Again, this is not my go-to gun. This is a toy, I know, but I want it fully HD functional.
c) I've made my mind up I'm going to get one so please don't try and talk me off the ledge. I'd greatly appreciate any pros or cons of people's experiences with different AR pistols.
Thanks again!

I suggest that you read some of the previous discussions regarding AR pistols and why they make little sense.

I've actually read a plethora of previous posts on this and other forums and it seems there's 65% of people ridiculing them and then 35% of posts are talking about happy owners. I'm hoping to hear from the 35% who know the pros and cons of various AR pistols and then I'd also appreciate hearing from the 65% if they want to weigh in as well.
I fully respect all input, so thanks in advance.
