I have a first year production Marlin 880 sq that I'm turning into a trainer. I need some input on scopes. All i've ever owned is 3-9 powered scopes. I'd like to eventully shoot out to 200 maybe 300 yds.

I think 9x is fine to take out to 300yds. Just get a mildot and learn your holds.
I have an el cheapo on my Savage .22lr and it works fine (i've only pushed it to 100yds).
With .22lr I think paying for good ammo is the biggest variable. Wolf MT, Eley, ect.

Print those targets, and try them at 25, then 50yds. You'll probably find that 9x isn't going to cut it.

Ummm for those targets at 300yds, you're going to need one of these.........

You're also going to need a 40x and some $$$$$$$$
Thanks orkan, thats a great site. I think a 6-24x40 to 44 obj is what I need.
Yup, that'll serve you well.
You don't need 300yds to learn something with a 22lr. If you want to run the turrets, then yes it has value. However, you would be absolutely amazed what a 22lr will teach you at 25 and 50yds.
