Not only this, but practice bringing them into action.

I keep my Aimpoint on, bolt closed on an empty chamber, and 28 rounds in my magazine.
    I paint spaceship parts.

    Add-on question

Not allowed to post new threads so hopefully you don't mind me adding on. I had same question but have young kids, so AR mag is in my bedside safe with 9mm. I'm comfortable with both weapons but just now starting to practice on a frequent basis.(both guns are new to me within the last 12 months) My groups with 9mm are sub-par and my 6920 groups are within a few inches, so I obviously feel more confident with AR. I have a surefire light and Aimpoint optic.
My thinking is that if I need to defend myself as quick as possible I grab 9mm and go...but if I have the extra seconds I load the AR and give 9 to wife. I'm not worried about noise while loading and charging as if the intruder hears me and runs then mission accomplished.

Is this too much? Is clearing a house with an AR stupid for untrained person due to length of weapon (easier to be disarmed). Thoughts on above would be great! I'm going to take a training class, but this is for interim.

Yeah, 6 I think, but I could be wrong. Battery life is my only complaint about it; and the awkward buttons to turn it on, which is why I leave it on and keep a lot of batteries.

From the LEO's that I've spoken with when I represented them, clearing a house with 1 person (really less than 4) is stupid unless it's an emergency (saving your kids). Hunker everyone down in a safe place and be ready for the BG if he seeks you out; but that's just one AZ DPS officer's opinion.

If you can fight with a rifle instead of a pistol, choose the rifle. Don't go trying to clear your house.

I got rid of my eotech because of that, now have Aimpoint T1 and never turn it off.

We're all on top floor at night so that makes much more sense to hunker down and call police. Also gives me prime elevated firing position if need be. Go figure, the 2 times my wife has heard noises, she demanded that i go check it out and I guess I didn't think about it. Man, I really need to read more and get trained by a professional. Thank you

Hearing a noise and going to check on it is different than knowing there's intruders in your home and going to clear them out. I'd say you're okay doing what you're doing.
