    Vickers Sling Mounting Advice

I'm having a blast picking out stuff for my build! The receivers have now been paid for, serials on their way to the ATf - now the wait! As much fun as I'm having getting parts together, I'm scratching my head at how I want to mount a sling. I've ruled out a single-point, thanks to some sage advice and initially thought about traditionally mounting a sling from the classic sling mount of the Sully, to the FSB.

I've decided this is not what I want to do and will likely be going Vickers. So my question is, what would you do to mount it? Thanks.

I'll tell you what works for me:

I mount the BFG/Vickers sling close to the receiver front and rear. I personally use QD pushbuttons DD mounts.

This arrangement allows for weak shoulder transitions without dropping out from the sling and also allows you to tuck the carbine under the support arm on a low light weapon transition.

    YMMV.

Awesome - I like that idea very much - thank you. Any suggestions as to what to use for mounts and where to get them?, (I'm overwhelmed with choices). I'm sticking with traditional M4 hand guards - would a short, (3") rail bolted to the hand guard at 9 and a stock spacer suffice?

I have found it problematic to operate the charging handle when I have my sling mounted on the stock end plate and I have my weapon shouldered. I'm using a CTR for a stock and I ended up moving the rear mount point to the slot in the CTR. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, because I see alot of professionals with theirs mounted on the end plate.

I understand your concern, that's why mine is mounted at the rear of the receiver:

I'm new to the Vickers sling, but once I used it for a few days, I found that I preferred the "close/far" arrangement.

Meaning I used the LaRue QD cup on the rail, and a KAC QD mount on the LMT SOPMOD stock.

Not sure how to the best way to mount to standard M4 handguards, but might want to look at the Blue Force Gear - Universal Wire Loop.

As I stated up front and as SHIVAN alluded to, slings are a very personal choice. The Vickers sling can be setup innumerable ways. I can only tell you what works for me. I tried and did not care for close front/far rear. Other guys (including LAV) run it this way. You really need to try your sling under conditions where you are really transitioning shoulders or transitioning to your sidearm to find out what works for you.

Is there any consensus on whether it's better to attach the sling to the barrel or to a rail mounted swivel?

I would have to say that if you can keep something off of the barrel, go that route.

I agree. I have the DD endplate mount on the carbine too and might use it configured that way (close/close) to compare transitions, and retention.

Only way to find out what works is to use it under "stress".

The one thing I like about close/far is that a flip of the wrist of your trigger hand, will flip the loop over your head and out of the sling -- if needed.

There is no "correct" way, and everyone will have their own preference.

Thekatar operates his AR very well with close/close and LAV operates his AR very well with close/far....

    Try them all and decide.
