I've been shooting the 10.5 for a few years now, and most recently decided to build a lightweight 12.5. I'm pretty excited about it - hoping it'll be a little softer on the ears/head. I used a DD LW CHF barrel w/NSR. Almost done with it.

Anything chambered in 5.56 under 10.3 is really useless in terms of ballistics you lose alot of velocity and gain alot of chamber pressure and concusion. Sure you can make the weapon run realiable by opening up the gas port and selecting the right buffer weight but why go threw that trouble. My suggestion would be go with a 300 blk. in that short of a weapon.
I love my 7.25”. It’s fun to make some noise once in a while with the stock flash hider. The flame pig reduces the blast and concussion significantly. The silencer makes it a joy. I usually alternate between all three when I go shooting.
Shooting unsuppressed was never a problem. Getting it to run 100% suppressed took a little bit of screwing around with springs and buffer weights. Now I just need to find more WPA ammo.
I have had 2x 7.5 uppers. 1 AA and 1 custom Noveske with KX3 pig, both are loud as heck. They were not my first choice as HD rifles.
7.5 noveske
7.5 AA
I have since sold both, and now have nothing below a 10.5. I cant run my suppressor on anything shorter.
7.5s are great TOYS, or trunk rifle (for engaging short distance). But if you want to run a can, 10.5 is the way to go.
BTW, the 7.5 with KX3 was only 1 inch shorter than my 10.5 (thats a 9inch troy battle rail)...go figure.

Realized today that I can't remove the piston for cleaning with my AAC Blackout 51T on the barrel. Can anyone suggest an AAC mount that will work with this setup?
If its a 51T mount you will need to do this... A dremel and a round bit and a dab of paint. Problem solved. Something like this bit.. http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-932-Alu.../dp/B00004UDIT
Here was mine I did a while back.. Attachment 27946
