Aaaand that right there is why I never trusted helicopters; no chance to "glide" just "long drop sudden stop".

Helicopters can autorotate (glide), just not after being smoked in the face with a missile. Their natural state is upside down and on fire, and they spend their lifetimes trying to get there, as their pilots coerce them into beating the air into submission. Definitely not safe. I enjoyed this video, but its a great example of how we have to rethink insertion/exfil and aero-medevac in the context of peer/near-peer or proxy conflict, in addition to The Tyranny of Distance. Air Superiority is addictive like crack.

There's going to be a lot of reevaluation of the usefulness of tanks and aircraft in the age of precision manportable weapons. I predict the next evolution will be a Javelin that can take targeting information from a small disposable drone.
