Me neither and I have seen hundreds of very high round count M4s. In fact, I have never heard of it happening.

29 years of shooting and I've only seen broken firing pins on a couple of revolvers.

EDIT: For anyone interested: A Ruger SP-101 and some POS Taurus

    Welded, that's a good one.
You opened up the sarcastic mode!!! well the enlightened ones will respond... our parts are better than milspec or even HP testing weakens the part so we don't do it?

I bought two of these S&W uppers and had a spare at hand so I was able to continue banging away. The broken firing pin has 10,500 rounds on it, the whole pin pictured is it's brother which has 1,000 rounds. A couple of things are evident, first the pin was not made in one piece. It was made in two pieces and welded together, and that's where it broke, right at the weld. Second, it is plated and the plating is not doing a very good job of preventing corrosion as it is beginning to show the effects of attack by the corrosive priming. On the intact pin you can see, at the weld that the plating has failed and is gone. This is a good thing as it pretty clearly indicates that the pin is plated and that the pin is welded. It seems obvious that if you are going to make a whole shit load of firing pins you could make them cheaper by making two pieces and welding them together. It also seems obvious that you don't want such a thing in your rifle if you are all about reliability.

what is interesting st the battering? on the head ? surface where the bolt broke, could that lead to the problem?

I have a small handful of spare parts, I wish I had more, but I also wish I had money, looks, hair, and a fairy god mother.

I provided the Mil-Spec as something to compare to. You are correct as there are different stresses and manufacturing processes going on for his weapon.

For those who are interested, here is a look at mil specs versus civilian weapons:

I like to put it S@W ARs are made with bolt action steel. There is a reason for the mil spec and those who say milspec is the lowest don't understand what they are saying as there are Ars built to milspec standards and there are ARs not built to milspec standards. Yes there is a difference and the Milspec built rifle is by far the best built. Then again 10,000 rounds divided by $350.00 per 1,000 makes the cost of the rifle pale.

Military Specifications (Mil-Spec) is a combination of performance based and manufacturing standards by which a minimum acceptable level of performance or construction/fabrication must be met.

Mil-Spec doesn't mean the best built by any means, nor does it mean the worst built, it simply means that the military has set specifications that are the minimum ACCEPTABLE level.

You couldn't be more wrong. Being the new guy on the block, you might want to throttle down so you can listen more and talk less.

You are lost, so lost. 37 years in Federal service, setting milspecs for 12 of them. Get a grip.
