    Is this Aimpoint legit?

I just bought this rifle and kit for $800. Figured why not: the guy wanted to get rid of it, and while it seems like its seen some heavy use all the parts look pretty good.

The only thing that has me on the fence is the optic. If its legit: this is a great buy. If its a fake . . . well that has me a little bit disappointed.

Apparently he uses 2x375 button batteries in there, which I understand is a true aimpoint thing. But other than that . . .

I guess I'll find out when I get it. But I'm curious to hear other opinions.

The front flip cap looks different. As does the turret on top. It looks exactly like this knock off, but painted:

Hard to tell with all the paint, front lens cap could be canted for some reason. get rid of the paint somehow and try and see the words.

Find the serial number on the optic and contact Aimpoint. They should be able to tell you if it is real or fake.

Ahh shit. If its really that $30 piece o junk then I'll know as soon as I get it.

Oh well. I got a screaming deal on my Tavor's short barrel, and found myself some Pmag M3s this week so I've had a few wins recently. Still think the Ak74 style brake will be fun to try.

Take the turret covers off take pics. Also the battery compartment.

ETA: read your last post and it sounds like you do not have access to it. Be VERY leary. I've been taken by a fake Aimpoint before.

It's not the angle of the covers, it's the geometry. Look at his and look at the link I posted for the knock off. There are no recessed areas near the hinged portion. Now look at Aimpoint's sight or any real Aimpoint Pro and you'll notice triangular "divots". Also the turret on top - look at the spacing of the grooves and the height compared to different pics of real Aimpoints. The mount looks identical as well and it would explain the paint. I'm calling fake.

So does my $3300 AR. Wouldn't worry about paint jobs.

Even if that is a fake it still seems like you got a pretty good deal given the current market. If it's real then you scored big time. Once it's in your hands it should be fairly obvious if its real or not. I had a fake M2 when I got my first AR and it was such a piece of shit it broke almost immediately. $100 lesson learned.
