Wow I just asked what the average 60 year old male could flat and incline bench.
I am not talking about myself but a friend who works out on a bowflex he asked me what would be good for a 60 year old.
I am not the average 60 year old so I have no clue in what would be good for him seeing he asked me.
He did 185 for 10 reps today on the flat bench so I guess he might be good for 245 for a single.

Try 225 first as a one rep max and gauge his performance there. How easy did those 10 reps come at 185?

If he weighs 185, then a good 5 rep max would be 280 for general health.

He paused every rep and did it easy.
I know how to build up to a max ...I just was not sure what the average 60 year old should or could do.
He is more concerned about it than I am so that is the reason I posted it.
I am just happy to have a friend who is my age that wants to push himself to get stronger like I do.

I think anything above bodyweight is fine. The bench press ain't as big a deal as most make them out to be IMO.
